Karma Deck

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

reviewed by Alex Hall (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 10 August, 2025)

Karma DeckIf you have never been introduce to MEMORIZED stack work (I mean by a master like Simon Aronson or Juan Tamariz), this ebook might be a worthy step as a "first date". But if you have gone long miles to research the pros and cons of MEMORIZED stacks and have made the decision to devote time and effort to wield this mighty weapon, than I suggest leaving this aside and invest in the real work.

Here are the reasons.

First of all, I say MEMORIZED in its strictest terms, like "if you forget it, the only fallback is a note stuck to the back of a joker". After all, you can rote memorize virtually any sequence...so might as well use something with magic built in. Memorized stacks from Nikola to Aragon are mostly blessed with multiple built-in magic, of which very few is introduced in this Ebook (although I believe construction of more is possible).

Now to the construction of the stack. Unknown Mentalist is wise in separating suits from values, and using a tetradistic design, so the problem after the simplification really boils down to a bijection from collection {1,2,3...13} to itself. The construction of the bijection is admittedly smart, since it uses something virtually everyone is familiar with, so takes up little extra memory. Tetradistic stacks do offer distinct advantages (please refer to All In by Allan Ackerman, for details), but I am admittedly a bit disappointed to realize that this is not included in the description.

In all, I think this ebook works OK for a memorized stack first date. You invest 18$ and some 10 minutes and get a stack that is memorized besides a few tricks. Now you can do many if not most stack independent works. But are there advanced features like conversion from and to new deck order? Not mentioned. Any full-length discussion on how to get into stack from any situations? No. Also, the algorithmic nature means you have to discover built-ins, instead of building your favourite tricks into the stack.

It can properly serve as an introduction, and tryout to see if mem decks are really your thing. There is nothing wrong to abandon mem decks in exchange for other tools, and if after using karma you find out mem decks are just not so favourable to you, a great deal of time and effort is saved. But if you are an addict of mem decks, and wish not only to use but to study and cherish it, I recommend karma only as a middling addition to your knowledge, not a full powered weapon.

Invisible Mental LogsOverall, a nice, interesting PDF, but I don't see the credits to a very, very similar effect, that's why I don't give 5 stars.

Invisible Mental LogsThis is incredible. I love the mental logs. Brian watsons mental logs outdone are awesome. This knocks it off the top spot for me. Ridiculously easy to perform with a system you don’t see coming and couldn’t figure out if you tried. Bravo unknown mentalist this is the real work.

Hitting by Missing

Hitting by MissingI am an amateur magician. I do a little magic for a few friends. Hitting by Missing looks like a good piece of magic. It can play for 2-3 people, but is better with fifteen or more people. Various people guess as to the suit and value of "one card" face down on the table and of course they are right! As the magician you have a list of questions that you have to remember and ask in the right order for this to work. I haven't tried it yet, but I am hoping I could use a crib sheet that no one sees to make it easier for me.

Rebirth Revelation

Rebirth RevelationThere are very few effects around on the theme of rebirth. And this is one of the best I came across. I always start this routine by asking how many of the audience members believe in the concept of rebirth. Always several hands go up. I specifically tell them that this experiment is for them. The final impact on them after the routine is so very satisfying. This routine is now part of my bizarre set.

EyegraphsThe Step Jumble Force is diabolical. It is in plain sight but impossible to find. The basic principle is very clever. The routines here are great. And I'm also enjoying creating my own routines using this force.

Propless Name and Place in 45 Seconds

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Wednesday 11 December, 2024)

Propless Name and Place in 45 SecondsIt is very interesting when an idea can polarize opinions to both extremes. It indicates that the idea has merit, imo. So my curiosity made me pick this up. I like the simple brilliance of the core principle. The routine has a well designed structure and flows smoothly. Personally, I would like to use a couple of my business cards instead of keeping it purely propless. I would also prefer to use two participants - one for name and another for place. The link up to the Vampire Diaries web series is a nice touch. I took this for a test run briefly and I am happy with the results. This is worthy of my time and money, imo.

Hands Off Book Test

Overall customer rating: ★★★

Hands Off Book TestGot a second-hand paperback copy of Think And Grow Rich by Napolean Hill and prepared my Hands Off Book Test. It took me about 40 mins to prepare and I have a great book test always at hand. Performed this 3 times so far. Loved the response. My humorous opening line is "I confused Think & Grow Rich for Gamble & Grow Rich......". Just like MOABT this one too is completely hands-off and equally impactful with similar effort but at a fraction of the cost. This is a great idea combining a well-known card principle into a book test.

Deckology: Mystic Deck

Overall customer rating: ★★★

reviewed by Brad Smithart (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 08 December, 2024)

Deckology: Mystic DeckI don't do much mentalism or occult-themed magic, so I wasn't sure if this short book would be of interest to me, but after reading the other two volumes in this series, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did since I found a lot of usable material. As with the other two books, the author relates elements of a standard card deck to other elements (in this case, primarily spiritually or mystically themed). It provides potential patter ideas for anyone doing card tricks.

Deckology Volume 2: Biologic Deck

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

Rating: ★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 08 December, 2024)

Deckology Volume 2: Biologic DeckI'm reading these three volumes from the Unknown Mentalist in backwards order, which probably influenced my perceptions. As in volume 3, the author provides explanations for the various card values, Ace through King -- this time in terms related to the human body. I definitely prefer the material in this volume over volume 3. It should be usable in a variety of performance styles.

Deckology Volume 3: Comic Deck

Overall customer rating: ★★★

reviewed by Brad Smithart (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 08 December, 2024)

Deckology Volume 3: Comic DeckI wasn't sure if this would match my style, but there is a nice mix of entertaining bits of humor in this collection. I especially liked the introductions to the various card values in a deck. (About half of the document is essentially a catalog of products by the author, which is not surprising for a free promotional product.)

Telepathic Memory

Overall customer rating: ★★★★★

reviewed by David Burmeister (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 08 December, 2024)

Telepathic MemoryThis UNKNOWN MENTALIST has another GREAT EFFECT AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE! I have done a mental telepathy effect where a spectator selects a female celebrity and then I divine it, but I really think the UNKNOWN MENTALIST has a better effect with this because it involves both memory skills and telepathy. The name of the effect says it all. I haven't purchased anything for quite a while but I finally got a chance to buy this. Also in my opinion I think this deserves more than a 5-star rating. Having said that, I think this effect is not for everyone but this will be great for those who don't mind practicing and perfecting this. Also I think that THE UNKNOWN MENTALISTS' KLAIRVOYANCE CALENDER EFFECT WOULD BE THE PERFECT EFFECT TO USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS! I also think that most people would call you a GENIUS if you are using either of these effects or both together.

Hands Off Book Test

Overall customer rating: ★★★

reviewed by Mark Millen (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Saturday 07 December, 2024)

Hands Off Book TestThe method described here works, however, I will never prepare a book in the way described, with the justification given. It’s just silly. I have no doubt Unknown Mentalist has some good material but there seems to be a running theme behind his methods in that they are extremely contrived, convoluted, or lack realistic justification. Will you be able to perform this and reveal the words being read? Yes. Are there countless other book tests that don’t require an open preparation of each page with poor justification for such preparation? Absolutely.

Theory of Sequential Decks

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

reviewed by Gregg Webb (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Saturday 26 October, 2024)

Theory of Sequential DecksThis is very technical writing about kinds of sequences for set-up decks, but given the price I don't see why a cardman wouldn't get it and look it over in case something strikes his fancy. I am a card enthusiast and have tried many systems in my time, and I can see going through this a few times more. Why not? I might learn something. Personally I avoid using true memory although I did the cover art for a number of memorized deck systems, but favor the Bart Harding stack which is a calculation and not a memorization, but I try to keep an open mind about the field. This book explores a number of approaches. Just a false shuffle or false cut and you are a miracle worker. If you do true memory work, you can really even spread the deck face up. I also know a few mnemonic stacks that can be spread face up and don't seem to be in any order, but are. Have fun going through this.

Propless Name and Place in 45 Seconds

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Tuesday 08 October, 2024)

Propless Name and Place in 45 SecondsToo contrived for my taste. Too much process. If you know Turner’s “Guess Who”, it’s along the same lines with a whole lot more process as well as reading a bank of names for spec to choose from. Not my cup of tea.

Propless Name and Place in 45 Seconds

Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Monday 07 October, 2024)

Propless Name and Place in 45 SecondsThis was a joy to perform. I did this on my team mates (helping on my thesis) right after I read the pdf and it went very well. I'm a fan of propless effects (read quite a bit of Peter Turner, Phedon Bilek, Fraser Parker etc) and this one is very different - direct, short and automatic and easy to perform - a rare combo in propless effects. The premise of the participants creating an imaginary name and an imaginary place for an imaginary person is quite engaging and powerful. I plan to add some bits of my own script to personalize it, of course. This is a "quick hard punch" like effect for anytime use at a great price. This will now be in my go to propless toolbox.

Masq Stack

Masq StackA very interesting and clever concept. It took me just a few minutes to get the stack and then it was a breeze to do the magic square effect. I think I will perform all my Si Stebbins routines using Masq from now on - this is far more random than SS. Also, now I am always ready to do magic square routine. Good buy for the price

The Grow Devils Principle

Overall customer rating: ★★★★

reviewed by Erik Corbett (confirmed purchase)
Rating: ★★★★★ (Date Added: Sunday 06 October, 2024)

The Grow Devils PrincipleThe two other reviews seem to be helping to hype this work. Read the description again. It says you will be able to whittle down choices from a list of potentially 100 items. Do you think it's that easy? It takes memory work to accomplish and if you hate anagrams, you're really going to dislike this.

I like the principle. Use it myself for an effect to garner an important piece of info that will help me generate much more content in the work I do. So, for me, I find it useful. You could go all lame mentalist and pull a long list out of your pocket or utilize your phone and have your audience wondering why you need a crib sheet to mind read....or how ever you are using this material.

I gave it three stars for the fact that half the people who buy this will hate it, find it a waste of money, and not use it due to ignorance and laziness. Others that can see its potential, most likely will not use any of the routines and just start applying it to their own ideas.

It says the work is already done for you to use it right away.....and it is. So pull out that crib sheet Mr. Super mind reader.

Propless Name and Place in 45 SecondsThis is not really like advertised. It uses a very contrived process that is nothing I would use. Not worth the money. The only deceptive thing about it is the way it's advertised.
