ACAAN

The 'Any Card At Any Number' plot is one of the most fascinating plots in card magic. Sometimes it is referred to as 'The Berglas Effect', because David Berglas was the one who popularized it, and who is probably this effect's most skilled performer.

The basic effect goes like this. Have a spectator choose any number from 1-52 (the number of cards in a regular deck). Let's assume the spectator chooses 16. Then have him or her select any card. Say the spectator chooses the Three-of-Hearts. Now the spectator counts to the 16th card in the deck and finds the Three-of-Hearts there. Impossible! But that is the effect. How you can achieve this and similar effects you will learn from the products in this category.

Raphaël Czaja

DIYCAAN by Raphaël CzajaFrom the creator of SCAMP, ACOCAVAN and 2D-ACAIN comes a fresh, original and effortless take on the Any Card At Any Number plot. It uses ordinary cards and can be performed hands-off (anyone can deal the cards at the end instead of the magician). Best of all, an impromptu version is also explained.

The magician introduces his performance by claiming: "The secret for this effect to be a success is for you to be both instinctive and lucky. I will guide you but just keep in mind that one card more or one card less will make all the difference."

The spectator cuts off the deck and silently counts his cards to...

Raphaël Czaja

Accans Family by Raphaël CzajaEFFECT: A spectator shuffles a packet of number cards as much as he wants and deals through it to create a random number. Then, he deals through a blue-backed deck of playing cards (in which the magician put a red-backed prediction) and stops at his number. Let's say his card is the 7 of Clubs. Unbelievably, the red-backed prediction is the 7 of Clubs!

NB: The deck is always dealt face-up. Self-working. Happens in the hands of the spectator. Examinable. Quick reset. No gaff. Uses one regular deck and one red-backed card only. Includes a handling to perform it anytime during your act with...

Raphaël Czaja

Toucan by Raphaël CzajaAs he shuffles a deck of playing cards, the magician talks about how cards and numbers have been used for centuries to predict the future and how it translates into his art. He writes down two predictions on the face of a random card and tables it face down. He grabs the deck and deals the cards two by two — top and bottom card together. At the stop of the spectator, he removes and tables the two selections.

Then, he reveals what he wrote on the prediction card: "27" and "35". The spectator combines the value of one selection (eg: 5 of Clubs) with the suit of the other one (eg: Queen of...

Cut Cat Can by Raphaël Czaja

A self-working and examinable ACAAN effect with two decks.

EFFECT: The magician thoroughly shuffles a deck of cards. Then, the spectator cuts the deck to split it into two piles. Only now is he asked to create a random number in his mind. After a very quick and simple procedure, he writes his number down on a Post-it note - let's say, "13". He sticks it onto the card he cut to - let's say, the King of Diamonds. From a second deck - on the table from the start - he deals the cards one by one. Amazingly, the 13th card is the King of Diamonds!

Self-working. No gimmick. No extra card. Both...

Rob Chapman

Remote by Rob ChapmanThe effect is as folows: A member of the audience is asked to join you. A deck of cards is shown wrapped in elastic bands and placed inside the box. The Magician then puts the volunteer into a trance like state to open up their 3rd eye. When they open their eyes the spectator, holding the box reveals the name of a card, and a number. The cards are then removed from the box still wrapped in bands and the spectator unwraps them and counts down to the number, at that number they reveal the card they named. The box and cards can be handed out straight away for examination. Or even to be kept. ...

Numbers is a great twist on the ACAAN plot.

You hand the deck to one of them, and ask that he deals down to the 22nd card... it's the Queen of Spades!

The performer shows two decks closed within their boxes. A spectator selects one of them and puts it aside (This deck will be used later). The perfomer asks the spectator to remove the second deck from his box and to check if the deck is a regular deck. At this point the performer instructs the spectator to select a number and a playing card using a very clean procedure with this deck. The spectator for example chooses 31 and Ace of Spades.
