A deck of cards becomes a stable of 52 horses. The horses are shuffled by a spectator and the deck is placed down. The performer then writes down the name of one of the horses on a pad and places it sight unseen in view on the table. This is a prediction of a horse that he believes will win an imaginary race in a few moments time.

Spreading the deck, a spectator is invited to touch one at a time completely at random seven horses. These are removed and held in a pile. He then selects any number from one to seven. Using the chosen number, horses are eliminated in the pile one by one until...

Here are twelve remarkable card tricks invented and performed by Stewart James in Canada, England and the U.S. So many magicians asked to learn these tricks that Stewart decided to reveal them for the first time in this book. Most all of his card magic is done without difficult sleights or trick cards, using subtlety instead.

You place the Ace, Two, Three and Four of Clubs on the table in a square formation as is typically done with matrix-type effects. You cover two cards with two jumbo cards. One by one all the cards assemble under one jumbo card.

You try to repeat the 'assembly' without the jumbo cards but the regular cards do not move. You turn over three cards and they are seen to be all blank. The other card is the 10 of Clubs, the sum of all the cards!

A small envelope with a hole cut from its address side is examined. A deck of blank-faced cards is then freely displayed and one blank card is openly slid into the envelope which is left in view.

From a regular deck, a spectator touches the back of any card. Let's say it is the 6C. This card is waved over the envelope and when the previously blank card is slid out it is seen to have now printed itself to match the selected 6C.

Show four ten-spot cards all with red backs. Showing them again reveals a four of Spades with a big black dot on its face. Then there are several four of Spades with a big black dot. Suddenly a card has a different back but also a huge hole cut in the middle. When this card is turned face-up it reveals yet a different card. It is madness. Best to watch the demo video.

A prediction Jumbo card is placed sight unseen in full view. A deck of cards is displayed and shuffled and a spectator freely selects a number of cards to use from the deck. These cards are eliminated one by one until only one remains. Despite the freedom of handling and choices, the selected card matches the Jumbo prediction. Very easy to do, suitable for a close-up show or a stand-up performance.

Three pre-folded cards are tipped from a card box and displayed as being a QH and two blank cards. The three cards are folded to conceal their faces and arranged in a row on the table ready for the classic Find The Lady. Having mixed the positions of the three cards, the one that should be the QH is opened to reveal it is in fact one of the blanks. That’s surprise no. 1. Surprise no. 2 comes when the other two cards are unfolded to reveal they are both blanks as well! The QH has completely disappeared. This is a revised version of the classic Parade Of The Kings packet trick from the 1970s.

Four blue-backed cards are counted face down and the performer explains that these are the four Kings. Two spectators between them decide on one of the Kings. Immediately the magician spreads the cards to reveal the chosen King has now magically turned face up.

But there is a further surprise when the back of this King is shown to have also now changed to red.

Then there is a final kicker when the other three face-down Kings are turned face up to reveal they are in fact three blank-faced cards...

The two Jokers are removed from the deck. Two cards are then selected. One by one the selections are placed between the Jokers and are then stretched to twice their length.

Now, both cards are placed between the Jokers after which they fuse into one examinable two-faced card that can be given to the spectator as a keepsake.

Finally the other cards are tossed onto the table and are seen to have become totally blank!

Roy Walton's Classic Oil & Queens on Speed!

The basis for this multi-climax routine is Roy Walton’s Oil & Queens. In the mid 70’s Peter developed a variation on the original Walton effect whereby the cards turned blank at the end. However, Jon Racherbaumer beat him to the punch when he published the same variation. The following routine is based on the blank routine but has an additional kicker stage that was not in any previous version. Peter has also added Kings to match the Queens. Also, there is no Hamman Count in this version.

You show a set of JUMBO cards (or you can use regular cards) which you mix and give to a spectator, face up. The spectator, with the cards in his hands, now selects any one. This is a completely free choice! No Force.

Meanwhile you have been telling the audience that this packet of large cards contains both positive and negative energies. With a card chosen, you take the remaining cards and turn them face down and clearly show the backs of these cards - printed in bold lettering on each card is: NO - NO - NO and NO! .... All negative!

A card is selected from your deck and placed face down on the table. You now show four cards that are clearly blank on all sides. These are placed on the table and the spectator places his hand flat on top. You wave the selection over his hand – he then lifts his hand – the packet is spread and a duplicate of his card has mysteriously appeared in the middle of the four blanks. But the image doesn’t last long and suddenly disappears leaving a totally blank card. Finally you drop the selected card onto the packet – again the spectator places his hand flat on top. This time, when he lifts...

A Multi-phase routine where Aces magically reverse, then change to Kings then back to Aces, then the Aces assemble and...

Bringing out your deck, you offer to show the audience a wonderful Ace trick, and so you remove the four Aces and hold them face down. One by one the Aces magically turn face up. Then you say, "If you think that's a good trick - I know an even better one with the four Kings." At that, the Aces in your hand change into the four Kings.

A spectator now cuts the deck into four piles, and you deal a King onto each pile. Just as you deal the last King, you have second thoughts...

In Turbulence, the impossible becomes possible.

Turbulence is a multi-phase card routine that is both mind-bending and entertaining.

Effect:

Turbulence kicks off with a sizzling and super clean "Collectors" phase where four Kings instantly collect three previously signed cards. Then, in the blink of an eye, the three cards instantly vanish. The three cards are then reproduced as they are summoned from the deck one by one.
