Devin Knight & Sid Lorraine
Thumb Fun by Devin Knight & Sid Lorraine

This was one of Sid Lorraine's most popular tricks. It has been off the market for more than 40 years. Devin Knight obtained permission from the Abbott Magic Company to release this again and to update the original directions. How good is this effect? Well, it was one of the late Doug Henning's favorite tricks and was personally taught to him by Sid. Doug Henning used it everywhere, including in some of his touring stage shows, showing it on a big screen behind him.

A playing card is selected and kept a secret from the performer. The performer shows five small white cards blank on both sides,...

Jon Racherbaumer
Marlo: Low-Down and Cozy by Jon Racherbaumer

This ebook features six presentations by Edward Marlo, one of the most prolific producers of card magic ever known. My criteria for selecting these six presentations was to pick effects that stressed subtlety and psychological cunning and required little or no difficult sleight-of-hand. The irony here is that such tricks are seldom associated with Marlo, even though he devised scores of easy, semi-automatic tricks during his career. But don't despair. The ones in this ebook run a gamut.

Cozy Card to Case is a subtle version of an ancient trick dating back to Walter Gibson's Popular Card Tricks. Most versions are based on miscalling a...

Stephen Tucker
This, That and the Other by Stephen Tucker

This is a miracle trick from the fertile, inventive and, dare we say, dangerous mind of Stephen Tucker.

You have three red-backed cards: two cards marked THIS one card with the word THAT. All you have to do is keep your eye on THAT but most of the time you get THAT wrong and it is THIS and when you get THIS and THAT wrong suddenly the back of THIS turns blue!

At the end of the routine you deal the three cards down on to the table and a new card appears bearing the word OTHER. So you have to explain as you deal the cards that to do this trick properly you will need THIS, THAT and a bit...

David Devlin
Plan 9 by David Devlin

David Devlin loves gambling demonstrations. He is particularly partial to the routines that give the spectators the impression that the performer is an expert in card control and cheating. Very seldom does one find a gambling-type of effect that has the following characteristics:

  1. Completely impromptu
  2. It can be done with a borrowed deck
  3. It is performed entirely in the hands, which makes it ideal for strolling performers
  4. There are no false cuts, false shuffles, or false deals
  5. The spectators legitimately shuffle the deck several times throughout the routine
  6. The spectators do all of the...

David Devlin
A Few Good Methods by David Devlin

Transpositions are a staple in magic. The basic effect is simple: two objects switch places. That is it. What David has done in this eBook is that he has come up with five different ways to accomplish the transposition of selected playing cards.

The methods range from super easy to...well...not hard but not as super easy as some of the others. Some of the methods are totally impromptu, while others require a small amount of setup.

Those of you who are familiar with David's work already know that he does not like difficult sleights or overly complicated methods. So, you will not find any...

Gordon Miller
Anthology of Card Magic by Gordon Miller

Originally sold in three printed volumes, now combined in one gigantic PDF.

Ever since the Abbott Magic Company started business in 1934, hundreds of card tricks have been offered for sale in their catalogs. As each new catalog was published, many of these tricks were omitted to make room for newer ones ... but like good books, great music and fine art, these effects of card magic still remain classics. Gordon Miller, who has been a member of the Abbott staff for over thirty years, delved into the archives and compiled over three hundred of these effects into this huge collection. Almost...

Al E. Smith
Another Card Book by Al E. Smith

Oh No Not Another Card Book is probably a more apt title for a card book. In fact for any card book published since the printing press was first unleashed. On the other hand, what's wrong with another card book? That's a rhetorical question, since the obvious answer is nothing. Card fans can't get enough of their favourite fix and anything that only marginally irritates those non-persons who pretend they aren't fond of cards has got to be good news.

This collection is partly that; a revisit to some previously published oddments and a few new(?) assaults on familiar card-friendly themes. ...

Matthew Leatherbarrow
Sticky Trip by Matthew Leatherbarrow

Effect: The magic-man reaches into his pocket and removes one solitary playing card say for example, the Ace of Diamonds. Draw on the back of this playing card is a rudimentary stickman. The performer goes on to explain that "the stickman lives on this card, the Ace of Diamonds is his home", as this is explained the card is shown clearly on both sides. The performer then goes on to say "like all other people, Mr Stickman likes to go on holiday". With one quick shake the stickman drawing disappears from the back of the Ace of Diamonds which is then placed face-down on the table. The deck of cards...

Jozsef Kovacs
Killing Classics 2 by Jozsef Kovacs

4/4
The performer randomly places 16 numbered cards onto the table. The spectator randomly chooses 4 quarter-sized cards from a deck of quartered cards and places them randomly onto the number cards. The spectator and the magician summarize the 4 chosen numbers. The performer counts down the same number of cards as the sum from a shuffled normal-sized deck of cards to get a random card. The performer turns the four, chosen, quarter cards face up. Together they form a whole jumbo card. The spectator turns the randomly determined, normal-sized card face up, and it is the same as the jumbo card. ...

4-SOME: Here's a simple and automatic, yet highly effective, way to get four of a kind using the Fulves "Gemini Twins" concept.

3-SOME: A matching effect where the spectator does all the work and finishes with Three of a Kind. Inspired by, but not using, Marty Kane's Status Quo-2 Principle.

THE HEAVY TEAM: A selected card lost in a packet is found by a randomly chosen Ace detective.

GHOST BUSTER: In effect, you show an Ace, Two, Three and Four of Spades. Each card passes from top to bottom and it is then discarded. When you reach...

The Double Whammy is a fun and easy card effect that hits hard. I wanted a card routine that I could do anytime with a borrowed deck. This is an effect that will knock their socks off and have them falling on their knees yelling, "He is the chosen one!" Well, maybe not that strong of a guarantee, but an effect that really will show them that you are a magician. I have always had people shout out in excitement at the end of this routine. This is one of the routines that I always do when handed a deck of cards.

Five Kinks by Ian Baxter

From the introduction by David Jones:

Ian loves to tinker! Given his strong creative abilities, this tinkering has more often than not, resulted in much improved effects, more streamlined methods, or both. Over the years, Ian has released a number of books and manuscripts that detail some excellent card effects. Numerous One Man Parades in the IBM monthly magazine The Linking Ring have also been published.

On one occasion I remember fooling many well informed card men at the prestigious FFFF meeting in New York State, with one of Ian's streamlined handlings of a classic card effect. ...

Brainstorming with B'Wave by Cristian Vidrascu

Cristian takes on the classic B'wave plot, and comes up with creative ideas for making it a highlight in any magic show or mentalism act.

He touches on close-up and stage performances, and adds unique twists designed to stun modern audiences. Hidden among the unique presentations are ways to turn an entire, previously examined deck of cards into a blank deck (no deck switch), or how to predict a number simply thought of by a spectator (nothing written down, no pre-show work or verbal forces) - all in the context of the B'wave plot.

As seen in his previous work on the Invisible Deck, his presentations...

David Devlin
Totally Twisted by David Devlin

In the first version of this terrific packet trick, the four queens are removed from the deck, and are held face down. One at a time and in turn, each queen turns face up as in the "Twisting the Aces" routine.

After all of the queens have had their turn face up, and are all face down once again, the magician asks the spectator to name any one of the queens. He explains that whichever queen is named, it will magically turn face up. Let's assume that the named queen is the Queen of Spades. The performer snaps his fingers and says, "Would you be amazed if the queen you named is now face up?" ...

Al E. Smith
A Spell Of Cards by Al E. Smith

An intriguing selection of card effects, A Spell Of Cards is not wholly concerned with spelling tricks. There are more than several offering a sideways glance at the concept. They take the spelling genre a little bit off the usual well-beaten track.

Among the non-spellers, there are a few move-related fragments. Nothing to run and hide from, though faro shuffles and bottom deals get a look in along the way; as well as established favourites like the Braue Addition, Double Undercut and the odd false shuffle.

Anybody who likes cards and is not completely allergic to spelling effects should...
