Power of the SvengaliGerald Edmundson
The Svengali deck has been a pitchman item for years. Gerald admires the skill of the Svengali pitchman. They handle the deck and do amazing tricks to sell the deck to bystanders. But Gerald's writing is not a treatise on "pitching" the Svengali. His purpose in using the Svengali is different from the pitchman's.
In Power of the Svengali, Gerald explores how to handle the Svengali as an ordinary deck, not as a special gaffed deck to sell. The power of the Svengali comes from its ability to produce tricks not possible except by advanced sleight of hand. Even skillful sleight of hand can... | $15 to wish listPDF |

25 Methods For Switching DecksFloyd D. Brown... just as he performed it for years on the vaudeville stage. Some of the methods involve no apparatus, others rely on props owned by most magicians.
Paul Fleming wrote:
Lovers of card magic have devised many set-ups (or systems of prearranged cards) and various types of prepared packs (such as Svengali, Mene Tekel, "strippers," and "longs and shorts" to mention but a few), which enable them to perform tricks far more astounding than can be presented through sleight-of-hand alone, even by the most skillful performers. The remarkable effects produced with "special" decks are described in... | ★★★★★ $8 to wish listPDF |

Card Magic: a Svengali Deck RoutineDr. John D. BainThe Svengali deck of cards is a specially prepared deck of playing cards (Poker-sized or Bridge-sized) that can be used by magicians or entertainers to perform various tricks. The deck and the tricks performed with it are assisted by its unique design and require almost no skill. It is based on a very old principle of entertaining deception and confidence game manipulation.
The cards of the deck can be flipped or riffled to create the illusion that the deck is completely ordinary. It can even be apparently mixed and shuffled. The trick involves a spectator choosing a card from the deck and... | $2.99 to wish listPDF |
Don started his magic career in the late 60's working at the Yogi Magic Mart in Baltimore MD, his home town, owned by the notable Phil Thomas. From there he moved to side shows and later he was inducted by David Walker as svengali pitchman. Don has worked as pitchman for more than 30 years and is considered the best svengali pitchman alive today.
The svengali pitch was originally created by Mickey MacDougall in 1935. In the 1940s S. David Walker learned the pitch directly from Mickey. And Don learned the pitch from David. Don is therefore in the direct line of the svengali pitch ancestry. | |
