This is a follow-up to Obscurities & other Hidden Mysteries, which was a collection of tricks that Peter had published in various magazines and in books published by others over the years.

Peter was unsure how a book of previously published material would be received, despite the fact that most, if not all of the material is hard to come by. The reception to Obscurities both surprised and delighted him, and has encouraged him to release this - a second book of obscure & hidden mysteries.

Attractive, Hot Thoughts, Bullet Proof, Medium Tedium...

A spectator is given a new deck of cards and some clothes pegs. Tearing off the cellophane they open the deck and begin to peg cards onto a washing line. When they run out of pegs, they shuffle the deck and pick one card at random. This card helps them randomly choose one of the pegged cards.

Imagine there are 9 cards pegged to the line and they choose the 4 of diamonds - they would then count along the pegged cards stopping at the fourth card. This card is turned around and re-pegged so that the audience can see what it is.

A prediction is opened revealing the name of selected card. ...

Effect: Having just had a card freely forced, you table the deck. Your right hand hovers over it, then descends onto it. Suddenly... a card spins out of the deck and into your waiting left hand. On flipping it face up...it proves to be the very one selected! You are then carried through the streets on the shoulders of your enthusiastic audience.

This is probably the most visual signed card at impossible location effect available today. The spectator's signed card penetrates a borrowed and sealed bottle.

• The bottle can be borrowed and is completely ungimmicked
• The signature that appears on the card inside the bottle is the signature of the spectator
• It can be a drawing or a signature - anything
• The card in the bottle is the card the spectator signs - no duplicate or switch.

This is a completely new principle. One rarely stumbles upon something like this. Often we find variations on old themes, slight alterations or modifications. However, this is a completely new principle. It is actually the combination of two known methods but in a completely new and unique way enabling completely different and much stronger effects.

Imagine a deck being fairly and thoroughly shuffled by yourself and the spectator. Under total test conditions, the spectator selects any card. You will immediately know the identity of the selected card. At any time, the deck can be passed out...

Someone tries to find the queen amongst two jokers, but fails every time. You pocket the queen, and ask them to find the black and white joker... they fail again as... all three cards are queens!

Holding three face down jumbo(ish) sized playing cards you say, "These cards may look very large, but they aren't... it's just that I have very small hands." As you patter, you show the cards to be two jokers and... a queen.

You explain that they are to ignore the jokers and... try to follow the queen.

You now mix the three cards very quickly as you...

You show four face up cards, explaining that two are identical, and ask someone to call out the name of the card they see twice. They do this three times, but are only correct on their third attempt! You repeat the entire procedure with the backs of the cards (only two are the same colour) ... with the same result!

A wonderful self-working rendition of the classic "Out Of This World" effect. This was the first real card trick I saw - and I was baffled.

A borrowed deck is shuffled. A red and a black card are placed face up on the table. The performer then removes cards, one at a time from the deck. Without the spectator seeing the faces of these cards, he indicates whether he thinks a card is a red or a black. If he thinks it is a red card, the performer places it, face down, on the face up red card. If the spectator thinks it is a black card, the performer places it face down on the face up black card....

A sweet revelation of a selected card. The Magician offers a beverage to the spectator. The spectator selects a card and the magician explains to him that he found out that cold beverages are much better if you add some sugar to them. The reaction of the sugar causes the sugar to form the shape of the selected card at the inside bottom of the glass.

An alternative presentational angle could be that you have caused some of that massive amount of sugar already in the soft drink to fall out at the bottom and form an image of the selected card.

No matter how you want to spin the story, this...

A spectator selects a card from a blue backed deck and signs it on both sides. The same card is pulled from a red backed deck by the spectator. Now there are the same two cards, one signed on both sides (blue back) and one not signed (red back). The performer explains that such twin cards are always connected in a mystical way. He takes the cards and the magic happens...the face signature travels from the blue backed card to the red backed card by rubbing them slightly face to face... The magician smiles and mentions: “Twins often share something! And here the twin cards share the signatures,...
