Ken Muller
Ring and Silk Progression by Ken Muller

A 'walk-around' style three-phase magic routine using a handkerchief and borrowed finger ring, with progressing mystery and astonishment.

Use most any pocket kerchief, napkin, scarf, etc. and a simple finger ring. No gimmicks, attachments or duplicates. A truly impromptu presentation using found objects that can segue into other magic effects.

The ring penetrates the cloth material in three different ways of increasing impossibility and visual impact. The observers are drawn in to anticipate magic to occur, and you then exceed those expectations and hopes.

Ken de Courcy
The Ring of EOK by Ken de Courcy

An amazing three part routine with a simple piece of rope and a borrowed ring.

The routine is in three parts. In Part I, a borrowed signet-ring is threaded on a rope, then penetrates it. Part II sees the ring again threaded and also knotted on the rope. Nevertheless, the ring visibly dissolves through leaving just the knot. In Part III the ring is threaded and knotted on the rope then a handkerchief is wrapped round it and the whole thing is held by a spectator. When instructed, he allows the handkerchief to drop to the floor to disclose an 'empty' rope; no ring ... not even a knot.

Jack Miller
Linking Ring Routine by Jack Miller

Harlan Tarbell said to this publication: "The greatest work ever published on Linking Rings." Jack's long cherished secrets are yours in his ring through ring, ring through arms, special three-ring routine, a.s.o.

On top of the linking ring instructions Jack Miller also shares with you a separate chapter on ring and rope penetrations. These latter methods are so ingenious and puzzling as to seem uncanny, and are rarely seen performed.

Hans Trixer
Conjuring Trix and Jardine Ellis Ring Effex by Hans Trixer

From the Foreword by Peter Warlock:

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I write this foreword to my friend Hans Trixer's book on 'ring' magic, for in it the reader is presented with a number of most effective tricks, all of which are free from the suggestion of special apparatus. Every effect shows a naturalness of handling that comes from the mind of a natural magician.

Hans, through his many contributions to magazines is already well known to magicians in this and other countries. His penchant is for the smaller type of magic, and amongst the group in Holland which devotes much of its time to...

Devin Knight
Test-Conditions Ring Penetration by Devin Knight

Magic literature contains a myriad of methods for doing ring on string effects. Many of these involve clever sleights or duplicate rings. The cool thing about this method is that it does not use any gimmicked cord, duplicate rings or any type of sleights. It can even be done with a borrowed ring. The incredible thing about this method is that it is done under test conditions with your wrists tied behind your back!

The performer's wrists are tied behind his back using an examined three-foot piece of string or cord. The ends of the cord are tied to each of the performer's wrists. A spectator...

Daryl Easton
Ring, Rope and Wand by Daryl Easton

This is a wonderfully visual and very simple routine. No gimmicks required. One simple move does the trick.

All you need is a wand, stick or pencil, a piece of rope and a borrowed finger ring. You ask two spectators to assist you. Rope, ring and wand are examined. Then the ring is fairly and openly put on the center of the rope. The magician covers the ring with his hand, each spectator holds with one hand an end of the rope and with the other hand an end of the wand. The ring magically jumps from the rope onto the wand. Voila!

Simple to perform and suitable for the beginner.

Dariel Fitzkee
Rings In Your Fingers by Dariel Fitzkee

A complete text on methods, mechanical devices, moves, techniques, figures, artifices, routines, etc., for performing one of the great classics in the repertoire of magic. It includes modern improvements, suggestions and ideas, together with routines eliminating the use of the key.

Paul Fleming wrote:

Once Dariel Fitzkee has determined to track down a magic trick or a principle of conjuring, there is virtually no stopping him until he has exhausted his subject; and the poor quarry has little chance of escaping its pursuer and the searching inquiry which will pierce its innermost secrets and bare them...

D. Angelo Ferri
Slydini's Linking Rings by D. Angelo Ferri

Slydini's Linking Ring Routine is a show stopper. Layman love it and magicians schooled in the Linking Rings are puzzled by it. It is everything a stage routine should be, entertaining and mystifying. This 91 page manuscript includes over 100 instructional photos and careful descriptions of each phase of the routine. Slydini's Rings are not 'quiet'. This is a classic conception. The rings are linked and then all the rings are handed out for inspection. An impromptu assistant is invited on stage and a very entertaining interaction between the magician and his impromptu assistant takes place. The assistant...

D. Angelo Ferri
Slydini's Linking Pins by D. Angelo Ferri

I have studied a linking pin routine myself many years ago. It wasn't this Slydini routine, but the effect is very strong because safety-pins are familiar to everyone. And if you can do something magical with a common object then you have a miracle at your hands. Now you can learn a routine which the master of misdirection devised himself.

Dennis writes:

Slydini taught me his Linking Pins Routine sometime in the late 1970's. For several Thanksgiving's, during that period of time, Slydini arranged for several of his students, including myself, to perform at the Windows on the World Restaurant,...

The removal of a solid ring from the center of a piece of string in a most deceptive manner. Simple to execute, a quick presentation, and can be done surrounded.

There has been much controversy over the creation of this brilliant effect. Harvey Rosenthal, Ray Grismer, among others, claimed to be the inventor. Whoever it was, it stands as a modern-day classic. Brick Tilley teaches the version he has been doing for decades.

Here you have thirteen effects with a ring and a rope, both ordinary. Aldo does not recommend to perform all 13 in a row as it may be too long of a routine, but select the ones you like and create your own sequence.

Ring and rope effects are always popular with any audience. They take little room in your pocket or performing table and are always ready to go. Both routines are also available as a download DVD of the same name: Still Ringing Around (download DVD)

Alan Rorrison
Pulled by Alan Rorrison

The Linking Rings effect is a classic of magic and for good reason: a direct and simple method coupled with the visual aspect of the props have made this a strong hold in most magicians' working arsenals.

So what is wrong with the original that a new one needs to be brought forth? Well, here are a few small points to take into consideration:

  • The old rings are too big for any real world worker
  • They are too expensive in most cases
  • Large rings simply look like a magic prop
  • The routine rarely has any motivation
  • People simply get bored of the routine
Pulled solves all these points and...
