A borrowed credit-card vanishes and reappears between the layers of a marked playing card.

Effect: (Basic routine)

A credit-card is borrowed from a member of the audience. It is put into an envelope. The envelope is destroyed. Another spectator is asked to come forward to the working area or on the stage. He selects a card from a normal deck of playing cards and marks it with his name. The card vanishes out of the deck and is found in a sealed envelope.

After a lot of byplay, the credit card is found...BETWEEN THE LAYERS OF THE MARKED PLAYING CARD WHICH THE SPECTATOR HANDLED ALL THE...

Only one routine but what an effect - and completely self working! This must be one of the strongest self-working effects there is. Based on the Eddie Joseph principle “Staggered” you have here a unique, fantastic routine in five phases, one stronger than the other where the cards match even though everything appears controlled by the spectator. Primer is a trick deck that has existed in Daniel Madison's repertoire for almost a decade. At first glance one may judge the deck as a 'beginners prop' but after using it I can say that this is a most powerful tool when performing. It achieves things, which in fairness can be achieved with a normal (modified) deck, but what's amazing about it is that it eliminates the sleights that at some point some of us could do without.

Coffee & Smokes
The performer introduces two red-back cards from his pocket and places them face down on the surface. He then tells a tale of association and how he always associates these two cards with coffee and cigarettes as these very cards where used in a trick shown to him by a good friend over coffee and cigarettes. The said friend is explained to be no longer living. The spectator is given a blue-back deck and invited to deal any two cards from the deck without looking at them. The spectator is then invited to turn over the red-back cards...one of which...the 2 of Diamonds is seen...

In the spring of 2005 Jay Sankey sent out a world-wide request for audition videos featuring original material from unknown magicians. In response, performers from more than a dozen countries submitted more than 200 tapes and dvds! Any card is freely selected from the deck. The card is signed before being lost back into the pack. The pack is placed into the box and you focus your attention on the top of the cased deck. Slowly and eerily, a card is seen to rise from the center for well over half its length. That card is the signed card....

You show five Alphabet cards which obviously spell the word L-E-V-E-L. You also show a white card with a perpendicular arrow drawn on one side, and a digonal arrow on the other. This, you say, is a home made spirit level. The way this card points can alter reality!

The cards are spread face down on the table in a straight line to represent the word "LEVEL" — as the cards are level on the table.

You now turn the spirit level so it shows a diagonal arrow. You now push the cards into a diagonal sloping line, so they are no longer LEVEL.

On turning the cards over, they now spell S-L-O-P-E! ...

You bring out an envelope and remove three $100 casino chips which you place on the table. Now you show three cards: two are black spot cards, and the middle card is a red Queen. Without any moves, you lay the three cards face down on the table. The spectator is invited to bet $100, however, there is a twist to this betting game. If he finds the lady you promise to pay him $100. However, if he picks a spot card, you will double the stake and promise to pay $200 if he finds the lady on a second attempt.
