This ebook explains in detail the true, tried and tested card control methods (basic moves & gaffs) that professional magicians use in real performance situations --- "the real stuff, not the fluff".

Four hands are dealt starting with an Ace for each hand. Another three cards are dealt on top of each ace. One at a time the Aces travel to the magicians hand - your standard Ace assembly. However, in a flash the aces jump back and on top of each pack is an Ace.

There are no difficult moves in this routine, but it is a longer routine with several steps to remember.

We all think we know the Si Stebbins Stack, so did I, until I dug a bit deeper. This publication describes the stack used by Si Stebbins himself and it's not the old favourite that we all know and love.

Kind of a Four
The spectator chooses a card and the performer prognosticates what that card is by looking at 'indicator' cards. Eventually, the 'indicator' cards are shown to be the three 'mates', matching the value of the chosen card, making four of a kind in all.

A version of Paul Curry's Out of this World where two spectators randomly pick cards and it transpires that one spectator chose all...

Imagine that a spectator freely shuffles a deck of cards, then randomly picks any 4 cards and from them freely decides which one to choose. The assistant delivers into the right hand of the medium, whose back was turned the whole time, the three remaining cards, and she, studying them for a few moments, will be able to guess the chosen card. Not only that but, repeating the experiment with a second spectator, she will guess the chosen card after simply having the three discarded cards announced by her assistant.

The core effect is that you play a game of Poker, using just ten cards, with one other player. They choose which five cards they would like, and you take the rest. Incredible as it sounds... they receive a Full House, whilst you always win with a Royal Flush!

NOTE: please don't confuse Red Hot Poker with the old "ten card poker" routine played with three sets of 'three of a kind' and a single 'odd' card. There you had to make them choose the 'odd' card in order for you to win. The routines here are nothing like that!

This is an effect Hofzinser created. You can read three versions of the original in Hofzinser's Card Conjuring. Three spectators choose two cards each and are asked to remember them both. Then they are asked to forget one of their cards. All six cards are returned and lost in the deck. Then spectator by spectator the performer finds the card the spectator remembered, shows it and places it face down on the table. As a climax those three remembered cards turn into the cards the spectators tried to forget.

An award-winning, impromptu, self-working card miracle.

EFFECT: A borrowed deck of cards may be used. A member of the audience predicts something that two other spectators will do before they know what they will do.

Anyone in the audience calls "stop" at any time as you deal off the cards, one by one. This card is not shown but held by anyone, back to the audience, so there can be no switch. Two other persons each take a portion of the remainder of the deck, a free choice. These cards are counted. When the stopped at card is turned around, it is found that it had predicted the totals...

The effect is as folows: A member of the audience is asked to join you. A deck of cards is shown wrapped in elastic bands and placed inside the box. The Magician then puts the volunteer into a trance like state to open up their 3rd eye. When they open their eyes the spectator, holding the box reveals the name of a card, and a number. The cards are then removed from the box still wrapped in bands and the spectator unwraps them and counts down to the number, at that number they reveal the card they named. The box and cards can be handed out straight away for examination. Or even to be kept. ...

During the first lockdown period, we lived separated from the world, connected to friends only with the phone; to please my friends I started looking for effects to be presented remotely to people connected, without phone videoconferencing, so that they can use their deck of cards or objects at their disposal, without my possibility to operate, except by checking the game instructions.
