In these wonderful lecture notes, you will find a lovely self-working card trick called Dueling Card Tricks, which uses a unique principle discovered by Alex Elmsley. It has a great presentational theme of how a mathematician, a psychic, and a magician go about their business. It finishes with an unexpected climax and thus has everything a good magic trick needs.
This lecture was prepared for the participants of the Midwest Magic Jubilee - St. Louis, Missouri - August 5-8, 1993.
The three ticks in this video are variations of effects by Don Alan, Juan Tamariz, and an old-school sucker trick that appeared in Expert Card Technique.
Don Alan had a trick called Magic Ranch in which a chosen card was found in a wooden egg. I've rearranged the presentation with a new ending, the people think that a real egg is about to be cracked open in the cupped hands of the assisting spectator. The switch of the real egg for the gimmick egg is accomplished by Slydini body mechanics and within reach of anyone willing to understand and apply the concept. I also offer an alternative ending, as well as how to make the special one-way...

These are a set of mind-reading routines based on the theme of city names, countries, and currencies of the world. These are fully self-working and almost impromptu which you can do anywhere, anytime to anyone. You just use a couple of business cards.
You can even perform these effects as completely propless if you want. Or you can even carry these routines as images on your phone. There are 3 different routines explained here.
You hold up one of your hands after designating each of your 5 fingers with the 5 vowels of the English alphabet. After each of the three steps in each of the...
Rock, Paper, Scissors
Imagine turning something as simple as rock-paper-scissors into a profound demonstration of influence and control. Fraser Parker does just that, flipping the classic premise upside down to create a routine that practically performs itself. Over three rounds, you don't just play the game - you control it. The audience won't just watch the game unfold; they'll feel your influence at work in every move.
There's no need for complicated processes or drawn-out instructions. You introduce the game, explain your intent to influence the outcome, and then ... you play. It's...
The magician finds the spectator's card despite impossible conditions.
A spectator selects a card from a shuffled deck and remembers it. Before he puts it back on top and cuts the deck, the magician suggests that he shuffles a few cards from the top so nobody knows what the top card is. The spectator does so and puts the packet back on the deck. Then, the magician suggests that he also shuffles a few cards from the bottom for the same reason. The spectator does so and, this time, drops the deck on the bottom packet. The magician actually doesn't know what the top or the bottom cards are....
If you have been thinking about including a rope or handkerchief effect in your routine, this is the one. Here is why: This classic magic trick is popular for several reasons. It's easy for spectators to understand, easy to perform, and captivating. The effect works well in noisy or dimly lit environments. If you're only doing the first two phases, the reset is instant. Involving the spectator in tying the knots adds an interactive element. It's an excellent choice for table-hopping, and the handkerchiefs take up little pocket space.
The new approach focuses on the relationship between...
A new impromptu and self-working card magic effect, in which the magician leaves a prediction in sight, a card is chosen and lost into a packet of a few cards taken at random and, when the prediction is opened and read aloud, what appears to be a joke, magically turns out to be the key to finding the chosen card!
A new self-working card magic effect, always possible to improvise (practically a packet trick) that will both amuse and fool you. The magician leaves a prediction in sight, then sets aside the two red Aces and has a spectator choose any nine cards from the deck. After one of them...

I did a series of monographs at one time, one trick at a time, that I felt had unusual ideas I hadn't seen before, and sometimes variations on ideas that had been around, but handled a different way. My thinking about these went back to the New Stars of Magic which Tannen's put out. These of course were one routine explained well. Lately, I thought of bundling them together and this is the result. I used drawings and not photos.
Aether was another run of ideas as monographs ... one routine or trick or idea per issue. Again, I recently thought to combine them into a collection. Ideas of mine include tricks, routines, and also handlings of various types of magic. I mainly work with sleight-of-hand with an occasional manipulative piece. Drawings and not photos, as illustrations.
Just Coins is intended to be a fun approach to performing a few standard coin routines. Almost totally devoid of any difficult moves or sleights, the routines depend mostly on the two fundamental principles of magic - misdirection and timing.
What's shared in this ebook are new ways to accomplish the coin classics in a unique manner. Included are Four Coins Across, Coins Through Table, and a Single Coin Routine-Slydini style. As a bonus is a mechanical suggestion to just play around with. Many supporting photos and videos are also available and referenced.

To become a master in anything you have to pay attention to the details. This ebook is all about details, the details of sleight of hand with cards.
Excerpt from the foreword:
You may ask, "Who wants to read long, complicated algorithms? Who enjoys atomic analysis? Why does magic have to be so technical?" The answer to these questions is implicit in this book.
Almost everyone has heard of the Vernon Touch. It has been lauded by countless respected names in magic. What is the Vernon Touch? In brief, it is nothing more than fastidious attention to details. Great magicians like Vernon and...
This may well be the last word in Book Tests! Here is a totally gimmick-free test that looks like mind reading at work. Imagine this...
Two spectators read just a few words from one of three books. The page has been arrived at by chance, with the performer concentrating on just one stand-out word. Following a few moments, the performer announces what that very word is!
As mentioned, a total absence of extras - no cheat sheets, stooges, playing cards, slates, electronic devices, or specially printed books. None of the usual stuff. For the working performer, this is an exceptional, completely...
Effect: For the revelation of a chosen card, the deck cuts itself. The upper part of the deck moves slowly and mysteriously sidewards at the location of the chosen card.
A serious advantage of this version is that it can be done with a borrowed deck. Another bonus is that you can do it at any time during your (card)act. No threads are being used. The method is very practical and incredibly easy. Well, as a matter of fact almost self-working.
"I've always loved the Haunted Deck and have during the years studied and performed many methods. Often there are several preconditions, such as...
Yes. You read that right. This is a no-math magic square presentation. Also, there is no memory involved. So the performer need not do any math during performance and also there is nothing for him to remember by way of formulas or rules etc. The prime objective of this system is to truly entertain your audience members. And you don't even use the phrase Magic Square during your performance.
Basically, in most magic square routines, the premise is that the performer has a 'super brain' or is a 'math whiz' and can create a magic square for any given sum in a short time and then goes on to...
Aldo Colombini's Contact Colors is a classic. Paul Gordon published two handlings (that Aldo loved) in 1998 in Cause And Effect. Paul recently improved the blockbuster We Have Lift-Off and entitled it, We Have Perfect Lift-Off. Here it is for the first time. It's super easy but so powerful. Two selections are magically produced and the four Aces suddenly appear. As an extra climax, the deck reverts to new-deck order. It's a blockbuster finale routine without sleights. Watch the unedited honest video and download today. Note that the opening shuffle is optional.
The false shuffles seen at the start...

This small packet trick combines several color changes. You start by showing five blank cards. Showing them again one of the blank cards has changed into a king with a blue back. You table this king. This process continues until you have all four kings with blue backs on the table and one blank card in the hand. The remaining blank card changes to one with a red back. Suddenly all five cards have red backs, and as the climax, you fan the five cards face-up and you now hold a royal flush.
