Paper & Paper Money

Paper folding, paper tearing and tricks with paper money are at the heart of this section. I am fascinated by paper. I consider it one of the most important inventions. You might not see it that way, but paper is a hightech product. Paper machines are pretty much the largest and most complicated manufacturing installations in use by humankind. Paper comes in all shapes and sizes and is ideal for customization with a slogan for your next corporate gig or a personal message. Vanishing a dollar bill or changing it into a hundred dollar bill will always garner respect and admiration. It is human nature.

Dick Turpin & Alan Shaxon & Ken de Courcy

Tearing Them Up by Dick Turpin & Alan Shaxon & Ken de CourcyThere can be no doubt about it, the "Torn and Restored Newspaper" is one of our modern classics. Many excellent versions have been published and marketed by dealers over the years. In the pages of this manuscript, we are pleased to present two excellent variations, Dick Turpin's "Torn and Restored Newspaper" and "Tearing Up the News" by Alan Shaxon, both first-class methods. Both versions are very easy to prepare and to perform. Additionally, we have included Ken de Courcy's patter presentation for the Dick Turpin routine, which of course, can be used for either variation. Ken’s patter is...

The spectator himself places the lemon in his coat pocket. The borrowed bill vanishes from the hanky while the spectator is holding it. The man with the lemon cuts it open and finds the bill inside. You do not touch the lemon.

And now for an encore, you decide to mark the handkerchief so the owner will recognize...

Wilton Moore Tucker

The Change Raisers by Wilton Moore Tucker

Almost defies detection, and practically works itself. This is no pie-in-the-sky con. Newspaper and TV stories report that victims of every age and ethnicity are taken in by this technique.

A prize winning paper folding and cutting routine with only a double sheet of newspaper and a pair of scissors.

The routine utilizes all the paper producing a whole succession of objects while you are telling an amusing story. In the introduction Ken de Courcy writes:

THE CHINAMAN'S PAPER CAPER is a most satisfying trick. To begin with, it is unusual because it utilises all of the paper. Second, it requires just one 'double' sheet of newspaper, and a pair of scissors. Third, in case you think our enthusiasm has run riot, it has already won two awards in America; "The Magic Dungeon Academy Trophy for...

Peter Prevos

The Möbius Strip in Magic: A treatise on the Afghan Bands by Peter PrevosThe Möbius strip is one of the most enigmatic principles of mathematics. A simple loop of paper transforms in unexpected ways. This topological quandary has not only inspired mathematicians; countless inventions use this principle and artists have painted, sculpted and written stories about the Möbius strip.

The art of magic has extensively used this topological principle to create the illusion of magic. The Afghan Bands were a favourite magic trick in the first half of the last century. Famous magicians such as Harry Blackstone and Nelson Downs regularly performed it in the stage act.

The Working Pro's Bill in Lemon by Scott F. Guinn"THE PERFECT CLOSER!"

This is quite possibly THE SINGLE STRONGEST ROUTINE in Scott's arsenal. A clean, magical, and effective Bill in Lemon routine that is audience tested and approved.

A spectator's dollar bill (verified as the same bill at every step of this process) is identified, such that everyone in the audience knows it is HIS bill. The bill is then openly (no envelopes) burned by the same spectator. Another spectator has been holding a package since before the show started. He brings it forward. The first spectator opens it and removes its contents: some napkins, a lemon, and a...
