Brian T. Lees

Brian brings over 50 years of experience to the stage. His shows play to all ages and he has made his mark as a highly skilled entertainer. The music, comedy and storytelling in his "Mysteries of Magic" show will leave you talking about it for a very long time. He knows the secret of capturing an audience and leading them through a magical journey.

Through his training materials Brian introduces magicians to the craft, skills and tools needed to work in front of an audience. It makes no difference how expensive your magic is, how great you are with slight-of-hand or manipulations. Your entertainment factor rests entirely on the audience. If they are not entertained you will not be viewed well as a performer.

Brian has presented numerous lectures on performance, working with music and show development to various clubs and organizations. His helpful articles have been published in both clown and magic industry magazines. Endorsements he received echo his goal of meeting magicians where they are and providing training to help take their performance to the next level.

Brian has won first place in group competition (Felix Adler Days, Clinton, IA) He placed second in stage competition (2012) third in competition (2015), second in stage competition (2016) by IBM Ring # 11 (QCMC), and third in stage competition (2017) by IBM Ring # 11 (QCMC)

All Brian’s training materials are available as lectures. For more information, or to discuss lectures for your organization or convention feel free to email: magicwithbrian@yahoo.com

Get the Second Booking by Brian T. LeesCompetition for performances today is more intense than it every was. Organizations are comparing information on large numbers of performers. Loyalty remains. But being the previous entertainer, only for the reason he/she worked it before, is not always the hiring factor. Individuals/agents are now looking beyond the cost. The non-documented elements are starting to carry a lot more weight in the hiring decision.

A dear friend once said that it is better to position yourself to be hired over and over, then to make one deposit and never perform again. That statement carries a lot of weight....

Marketing Outside the Box by Brian T. LeesMarketing does not have to be expensive. Newspaper, radio, and television are good sources, but they can cost a lot of money. There are other activities magicians can do to advertise their services. Many are free, and others have minimum expense. Some magicians only use these sources. This type of marketing works well for them.

To tap into these sources the magician must start to think outside the box. One must reach beyond those expensive venues and get their name out to potential customers through different media and activity. The magician must get creative, carving out exposure to their...

Optical Character Recognition by Brian T. LeesI remember reading an article about a magic trick. Not sure which magazine or issue it was in. But I want to read it again. I have two choices:
  1. I can start the magazine shuffle. Issue by issue looking for the article.
  2. Open a file folder on my computer. Then open the category folder and find the article.
OCR, Optical Character Recognition can be used to read the article into the computer. Once scanned the article can be pasted into a word processor, spell checked and formatted as needed.

An article written two months ago, or one that was published a few years ago can be found within...

Confusing Crayons: One Person Routine by Brian T. LeesThe Confusing Crayons is a well known classic. Two crayons and two cylinders are introduced. A volunteer gets one cylinder and selects a crayon. The magician takes the other cylinder and crayon. Instructing the volunteer to follow along the cylinders are turned over, back again and then over. The magicians crayon is right side up and the volunteers pointing down. This is a class that, up to this point, requires the use of a volunteer.

Confusing Crayons, 1 Person Routine is done without the need for a volunteer. Communication takes place with the magician's audience interaction. The audience...

Disaster to Laughter by Brian T. LeesAs magicians we are hired to entertain. The show must go on is a harsh truth that we all accept responsibility for. The fact is performances do not always take place without problems. If you have ever found yourself standing in the lights, with a failed trick you know what I am talking about. The audience knows the magic was a complete flop. There is no one else on stage with you. When that happens, we all promise we will never put ourselves in that situation again.

Your magic may be "performance ready" but is it also "audience ready"? This text talks about conditioning for the unexpected....
