The trickery is built into the cup itself and undetectable. There are moves not possible with a standard Chop Cup and ends with a transport to a spectator's hand who keeps the cup and ball. Burling Hull
Expert Billiard Ball Manipulation Part 1 by Burling Hull

Burling Hull was indeed an excellent billiard ball manipulator, and this is a very good introduction to the art.

Paul Fleming wrote about part 1 and 2:

For thirty-five years we have been giving and watching programs of magic, and in all this time we have not known a single instance of an audience failing to receive with enthusiasm a first-rate exhibition of billiard-ball work. Properly done, with a moderate display of grace and with appropriate musical accompaniment, the "billiard-ball trick" is as pleasing a demonstration of dexterity as anyone could wish to see. Among the performers of the past who...

Ken de Courcy
Stand-Up Sponges by Ken de Courcy

A practical and commercial routine without difficult sleights.

From the Introduction:

For a long time Billy McComb and I have been searching for the "perfect" routine with Sponge Balls. It's taken a long time because we laid down some rather stringent conditions:

  1. The set-up (and re-setting) must be both quick and easy.
  2. It must be workable standing up without the use of a table.
  3. There must be no danger of the balls dropping off the volunteer's hand and bouncing all over the place.
  4. It must be loaded in such a way that it doesn't bulge out a thin mohair suit.
  5. If possible, it must contain at least...

John Mendoza
John Mendoza Lecture: 1982 in United Kingdom by John Mendoza

On August 2nd, 1982, Martin Breese organized a John Mendoza lecture, which was taped for later release as a video. But Martin being the busy publisher he was had so many other projects to work on that he never got around releasing this recording. We rescued the recording from two old Umatic tapes Martin gave to me. Since this was recorded in the early 80s do not expect a high definition video. But it is nevertheless a good recording of Mendoza's lecture. The video has some flaws here and there with stripes, ghost images, and an occasional blackout. The audio track has no noticeable blackouts or problems....

Brick Tilley
Crumbz by Brick Tilley

Rene Lavand became known around the world for his version of this classic "Two in the hand, One in the pocket" sequence. Using only one hand, a few small balls of some soft substance and a lone coffee cup, he was able to fool and entertain all types of spectators for decades. This, then, is a streamlined, shortened version lasting less than a minute. It plays up the surprises without becoming monotonous. It can be performed silent or using brief patter.

EFFECT: Three small pieces of foam rubber are used along with a coffee cup. Two of the foam balls are placed into the cup. The remaining...

Dan Terelmes
Slam - and other pet peeves about the Chop Cup by Dan Terelmes

D. Terelmes is a performer who admits he tends to overthink things. He's been performing the chop cup for close to 40 years. Contained are his pet peeves on what he believes other performers (even top pros) are doing wrong when presenting the chop cup. You won't find any new sleights or new moves. Instead you might find a nugget or few that will change your approach as to how YOU perform and routine the chop cup.

He hopes to take the chop cup from the "obvious" trick that some consider it to be, to the miracle it can be; one that withstands repeat performances at street festivals and haunted...

Burling Hull
Master Sleights with Billiard Balls by Burling Hull

A series of original sleights with miniature billiard balls including an explanation of the author's ball stand and vanishing apparatus, and a thirty minute manipulative act.

Owing to the remarkable increase in the popularity of experiments with Miniature Billiard Balls, since the publication of “Expert Billiard Ball Manipulation,” and to the frequently expressed wish that I might have something further on this subject to offer Manipulative Artists, I have been induced to delay the publication of the next volume of the series and give preference to a supplementary volume of original ball...

Dave Arch
The Rare Square Spotted Wooden Egg by Dave Arch

Inspired by the name of a Dave Mayer routine entitled The Black Spotted Wooden Egg referenced by name only in a 1989 IBM Ring report, I constructed this five-minute routine for the venerable die box that has now entertained audiences for two decades. Between two volunteers acting out their parts on stage, and the entire audience creating the sound effects necessary for the story, no one is left without a part to play in this routine. It just might bring your die box out of the drawer.

John Alborough
Mainly Manipulative Magic by John Alborough

From the introduction by Lewis Ganson:

Seeing the late Edward Victor on stage at the now defunct Metropolitan Theatre in Edgware Road, London, when John was a small boy, started his interest in magic. Later he became enamoured with the manipulative magic of Geoffrey Buckingham, so it is not surprising that Victor's expert thimble magic and Buckingham’s excellent manipulation of billiard balls, should have had a marked influence on the type of magic John performs. Having met and enjoyed the confidence of these two magicians and studied their books, he built his own act. Certainly the Victor / Buckingham influence is there but John...
