Impromptu mentalism is usually improvised but certain effects may be prepared in advance if they are presented as impromptu ideas. Somewhat like the comic who memorizes thousands of one-liners and seems to create them off the top of his head.

This is a straightforward version of the classic Lie Detector routine that can be performed with any deck (even a borrowed one) and with no advance setup.
A deck is shuffled by a spectator to put the cards into a genuinely random order, and the performer then extracts one card which he leaves sight unseen in view on the table. The magician then asks a spectator three questions about the tabled card, and the helper is invited to make up his answers (since he doesn't know at this stage what the tabled card actually is). Whatever answers the participant gives, the performer spells the word... $20 Impromptu Card TricksMago Marko
In this fantastic ebook, you'll find the truly impromptu tricks found in The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks, together with dozens of notes not found in the original. These notes add new and interesting tricks and fresh ideas for presentation and even patter in some instances. But that's not all. We have added many illustrations that help clarify the description of certain tricks. Another thing we have done is adding, in some cases, the original advertisements that were used to sell these tricks when they were put on sale way back then.
Truly impromptu means that you take a normal shuffled deck and immediately, with no preparation... $9.99 Impromptu Upside Down ACAANBiagio Fasano
From a deck of cards, shuffled at will by a spectator, a card is taken at random and scattered in the deck, then found by the spectator himself at the number he thought of!
This is a semi-automatic card effect, in which a spectator freely shuffles a deck. Then he thinks of a number and removes that same number of cards from both the top and bottom of the deck; he memorizes the card now on top of the deck and places all the cards he just removed on top of it, after shuffling them together.
The magician, who had been facing away the whole time, now turns around and, taking the deck, cuts... ★★★★★ $3 Magic Menu volume 2, number 8 (Nov - Dec 1991)Jim Sisti

12 pages★★★★★ $19.90 The Dai Vernon Book of MagicLewis Ganson & Dai Vernon I was lucky that I stumbled across this book very early on in my magic development. It had a huge impact on how I approached magic and how I think today about magic. The introductory chapter "The Vernon Touch" should be mandatory reading for every magician. I would go so far as to recommend re-reading it every year. Martin Breese wrote: "One of the most important books of magic ever written." Max Holden said: "I consider Vernon the greatest man with a pack of cards of the present day." Many consider Dai Vernon, the professor, as one who had probably the biggest impact on magic in recent times.

This e-book addresses impromptu magic that can be performed anywhere - cards, coins, cups, and ESP. Includes three videos and many photos, explaining everything. These effects are not the typical long-winded, counting, confusing, multiple-packet effects that many young people "teach" on YouTube and claim that they're professional routines...they are not. The routines within, are interactive and visually pleasing. 10 professional impromptu effects are included - most are magician-foolers.
Effects included:
- Rainbow Match
- Cup thru Table

★★★★★ $9.95 Dark Matter Secrets: 80 Years of Spooky MagicVarious Authors One of the biggest bargains in magic. Over 80 years in the making. Abbott's Dark Matter Secrets is simply the greatest compilation of "spooky and bizarre" magic and mentalism effects ever assembled. Some date back to Abbott's beginning back in 1934. The ultimate spooky magic book, Abbott's Dark Matter Secrets has 142 effects and includes stage illusions (complete with workshop plans), sideshow illusions (again, complete with workshop plans), parlor effects, escape effects, mentalism effects, etc. Dark Matter Secrets is Abbott Magic's expression of spooky magic that it has sold in one form or... ★★★★★ $30 The Impromptu MystifierKen Dyne Have you ever been caught out when someone says "show me something"? ... ★★★★★ $12.95 Anthology of Card MagicGordon Miller Originally sold in three printed volumes, now combined in one gigantic PDF.
Ever since the Abbott Magic Company started business in 1934, hundreds of card tricks have been offered for sale in their catalogs. As each new catalog was published, many of these tricks were omitted to make room for newer ones ... but like good books, great music and fine art, these effects of card magic still remain classics. Gordon Miller, who has been a member of the Abbott staff for over thirty years, delved into the archives and compiled over three hundred of these effects into this huge collection. Almost... ★★★★★ $19.50 Birthdate Magic SquareChris Wasshuber A spectator populates a row of a 4x4 square with any four numbers. You fill out the remaining 12 squares in seconds to construct a magic square. Does not require any math.
This has become my favorite impromptu magic square effect, because it is easier than a classic magic square - there is literally no math, unless you consider counting up or down by one math - and it produces a stronger effect with spectators. Thus a win-win all around.
The effect: Take any piece of paper, for example the backside of a restaurant receipt, and draw an empty 4x4 square. Then ask a spectator to fill in any... ★★★★★ $6 The Magic 36William S. Houghton This ebook contains excellent variety for magicians and mentalists of all performing capabilities and experience levels. The effects and routines include apparatus tricks, mental stunts, spirit writing, predictions, magazine and book tests, thumb ties, and tricks with cards, silks, coins, cigarettes, billiard balls, sponge ball and a terrific rope routine.
Paul Fleming wrote:
