Michael Kociolek
Casus by Michael Kociolek

A deck of cards is given to a spectator to shuffle, and she's asked to silently think of any number between 1 and 52. The performer then asks the spectator to freely select a card and remember it.

At no time during the effect does the performer know the spectator's number or the value of the chosen card. He briefly shuffles the deck, asks the spectator to hold out her hand, and places the face down deck on her palm. The spectator then deals cards, one by one face down, to her chosen number.

She then turns this card face up. It's her chosen card.

This effect is 100% impromptu. Any deck...

August Roterberg
Catalogue of New Card Miracles by August Roterberg

From the introduction:

The clever creations in the following pages are the result of the great demand for card tricks which has swept the magical world. A few years ago practically all card tricks depended upon skill in sleight of hand. There were few, if any, real good tricks which the inexperienced could successfully perform without previous practice. The sudden demand of tricks for this nature has resulted in the invention of many clever and puzzling effects by some of the masterminds of the Magical Profession.

In the following pages are offered, for the first time, a collection...

Jozsef Kovacs
CCARN: Chosen Card At Random Number by Jozsef Kovacs

"I'm not an ordinary magician: I LOVE card tricks with two decks! I really dig the apparent fairness of the trick. The spectator is asked to do many fair choices and the outcome looks impossible. A worthwile variation on the ACAAN plot." - Raphaël Czaja

Any card is selected [say the King of Spades] and then buried into the deck by the spectator. Using a 2nd deck, a number is very fairly generated, again by the spectator [let's say 25]. You won't believe this, but... the 25th card now dealt to in the 1st deck is the King of Spades!

Keith Clark
Celebrated Cigarettes by Keith Clark

This is a detailed description of Keith Clark's 'Phoenix plot' routine, where a cigarette gets destroyed but somehow is recreated - as it were it rises like Phoenix from its ashes.

Paul Fleming wrote:

Celebrated Cigarettes, by Keith Clark, is similar to Silks Supreme and Rope Royale (which were the work of the same author and the same publisher) in that it is edited by John Braun, illustrated by Nelson Hahne, and neatly printed by the offset process and bound in a decorative cover of soft boards. It is an eighteen-page booklet, with twelve pages of text and six of excellent drawings.

Devin Knight
Cell Phone Premonition by Devin Knight

Directly from Devin's show ... if you like effects that can leave an audience in stunned silence, then this is for you.

Telephone tricks were not very practical in the older days, as you had to have a land-line at your shows. Nowadays, almost everyone has a cell phone, so it's easy to do mind-boggling feats at any show. This is direct from my show and is baffling beyond words.

Magician writes on three index cards and hands them to three different people in the audience. These are random people and are not plants. The three people can see what's on the cards, but are asked to not show...

David Numen
Cellular Forecast by David Numen

Cellular Forecast has been called the next step in predictions by none other than Paolo Cavalli. It's a low-tech, direct way of using your cell phone as a powerful mentalist tool - imagine sitting with someone in a cafe and asking them to name something they see. You direct them to your cell phone which has been in full view all along. They go to the video folder and see that there is only one video - they play it and see a video of you predicting correctly what they would say.

That's the ultimate version and it's not a pipe dream - the basic idea can be adapted to cards, coins, book tests...

Cemented Thought by Mike Kempner

Have you ever wanted to create the illusion of being able to cement a thought into the mind of your spectator 100% of the time even if she has the ability to freely choose ANY thought...yes, literally any thought? Welcome to Cemented Thought, an underutilized and somewhat lost principle that will enable you to do exactly this.

Effect

You tell your spectator that she is to think of any word only in her mind. She will not write this down, as it is completely mental...and there is no process at all. She simply thinks of any word...no force at all. You tell her, "the thought is now cemented...

Jack Chanin
Center Tear Bill by Jack Chanin

One of the best impromptu tricks ever invented for an unprepared dollar bill, invented by the late Jack Chanin. Long off the market. This charming bit of magic is almost forgotten today. This sold in the 70s for $10.00. According to Dollar Times that would be over $60 in today's dollars.

You show an unprepared dollar bill and fold it into quarters. At the folded corner of the bill you tear off a section, as shown on the cover photo. The audience plainly sees the missing section. Placing the small torn piece into your mouth, you blow it at the bill. Instantly, the bill is restored, pulled...

Ulysses Frederick Grant
Center Tear Methods by Ulysses Frederick Grant

The center tear is, without question, the finest all-around method for gaining information written by a spectator. The main advantage of the center tear is that it is always ready to use, a small slip of paper is all that is needed.

In the past, many performers went to U. F. Grant seeking a way to use the center tear effectively. The problem which confronted most of them was how to read the written message without being detected. This problem confronts nearly everyone who wants to use the center tear. And it has been the reason many performers have avoided it.

In this eBook are revealed...

J. G. Thompson Jr.
Centermental by J. G. Thompson Jr.

The origin of the center tear is unclear. Some say it was used by mediums for a long time before magicians found out about it. Theodore Annemann was the one who made it popular among mentalists. Others believe that Martin Sunshine invented it, who passed it on to Theodore H. Arnold who shared it with Annemann. Either way, the principle is one of the most powerful at the disposal of mentalists.

This ebook describes in detail the various phases from the steal, to reading the center as well as other applications and tips.

Jon Racherbaumer
Centric Doubles by Jon Racherbaumer

This is a detailed and thoroughly researched work on double lifts taken from the center of the deck, or so called center double lifts.

A double lift is one of the hardest moves to do well and at the same time one of the most practical and useful moves in magic. One strategy to make a double lift more deceptive is to take two cards from the center rather than from the top of the deck. The downside of this strategy is that the utility of the move is reduced. Nevertheless, for the expert card handler it is worthwhile to study these types of double lifts and acquire one or two versions for one's...
