The creator of these effects, Jozsef Kovacs, is a Hungarian magician who became interested in magic at the age of four. He was living in a small village but only when he moved to Budapest he was able to find a magic store and the possibility to find books and videos. He published a series of booklets and lecture notes and you can find most of his work here on Lybrary.com. He likes close-up magic but card magic is his real love.

The four aces (or four selections) are signed and placed aside. A fifth unknown card is selected and placed face down between two jokers, which are then placed into the card box. The aces are then shown once again, and are then cleanly shuffled...

The effect is pretty simple and straight forward. A card is selected. In fact, the spectator can change his mind and select a different card! The spectator then signs the card across its face. As a plot, Cards Across is fairly simple and direct. It's a transition effect where a number of cards - usually three - magically travel from one packet to another. There are methods that use gimmicked cards, others use purely sleight-of-hand.

This manuscript is an exploration of subtle methods based on Stewart James' "Pockethereal." Its selling point is that there are no switches or exchanges. The only sleight of hand is the false counts. This put it in a class by itself.
