Do a color change, while the card is on fire!

This is a really nice color change, with the added touch of changing a burning card into a different burning card. Included is a method to make the first card travel from the deck, into the box. The change will take some practice, as it uses some un-orthodox moves, but is well within the skill of the average card handler.

Another great trick by Ken. You can do it anytime, anyplace with any deck. You can perform it even if the deck is incomplete. It is a perfect impromptu trick. It has all the elements of a great trick: an entertaining patter, comedy and a surprising finish.

THE EFFECT

A pack is shuffled and a card is selected by a spectator, shown to a few other people, then returned. The magician shows the face card of the pack and asks whether it is the chosen card. This is denied. The performer tries to right the things.

He drops the pack face down on the table but the top card is face up. But once...

This is Jack Merlin's Order trick from And a Pack of Cards. The performer and spectator each give the deck a legitimate riffle shuffle. Then all the Spades are removed from the deck, shown in a ribbon spread, counted to be 13, and magically end up in order from ace to king.

This is a hands-off and impromptu card effect.

This effect should be presented as a mental experience rather than a card trick. The patter could be around complementarity or duality. You can talk about Yin and Yang, Black and White, Heads and Tails, Male and Female, etc. At the end of your introduction, you explain that in a deck of cards, this is represented by the two colors RED and BLACK.

A Spectator shuffles the cards and cuts it in two piles. He thinks of a color RED or BLACK and counts secretly how many cards of this color are in his pile (for example 7), while your back is turned....

The performer retails and reenacts a dream that at the end becomes reality.

A pack of cards is introduced. Spectator gives it a cut and peaks at a card in the center of the deck. Then the spectator gives the deck a shuffle. Performer turns half of the deck face up and half stays face down. The spectator is asked to remember if her card is in the face-up or face-down portion. The performer spreads the face-up portion. Then the portions are separated and the performer continues with his dream where he took a card crumpled it up and it vanished in mid air to reappear face up in the tabled portion....

A remarkable transition effect using unprepared objects and little sleight of hand.

Four Queens from any pack are placed on the four corners of a square cloth. Two of the Queens are covered with squares of paper. One at a time, the Queens are put beneath the cloth thru which they penetrate and come up under the square of paper. It is amazing to see the identical card make the passage and appear under the paper along with the others, until all four are assembled under one paper.

Mickey Mace has released another one of his favorite effects. In The Really, Really Perfect Blackjack Deal, the performer speaks of the proliferation of casino gaming across the US, and mentions how, with a bit of magical help, anyone in the audience can become an expert blackjack dealer.

A volunteer comes forward and is handed a stack of 7 or 8 casino chips. The performer takes a deck of cards and removes four cards placing them face down in a row. The volunteer is then asked to place four of the eight chips in a row next to the four face-down cards – four bets, for four hands of blackjack....

You correctly guess how many red and black cards a spectator has casually put into four pockets with an unexpected climax. No skill required.

EFFECT

A spectator is given a pack of cards, or he can use his own. He shuffles it, removes some cards, splits them into blacks and reds and places the blacks in his left trouser-pocket and the reds in his right. He takes some more cards, splits them as before and conceals the black cards in his left jacket pocket and the reds in his right. All this has taken place while the performer's back is turned.

The magician asks the spectator to again...

A B'Wave effect with a new twist!

You remove two packets of cards – one red back and one blue back - from your wallet. The red backed packet is placed at the center of the mat and the blue backed packet is placed into your left hand. You explain that you are going to play a game similar to poker. You point out the four-card packet on the table saying,

The younger generation of card magicians probably knows or has heard of Card College by Roberto Giobbi. The Royal Road to Card Magic is very similar but of older vintage and doesn't cover as much ground. It introduces the novice into the art of card magic one move and principle at a time, always with tricks accompanying the moves. An act in itself. Seven cards are selected. One card is signed by a spectator and then all seven cards are lost in the deck. Eventually, one by one, they are found by the performer. The signed card continuously reappears and then finally, it is found inside your wallet. It also contains a multiple control of cards called Colombini's B.S. Control.

The first part consists of stories about cardsharks and other crooks from Robert-Houdin's recollections. This is very readable and an entertaining part of the work. The second part explains some of the technical details of the methods used by cardsharks. However, the methods are for the most part only described in very rudimentary form. As Robert-Houdin writes himself, this is not meant as a way to teach you how to do it, but merely to give the reader insight in how the different ruses are accomplished. Nevertheless, it provides interesting insight into the ways and means of cardsharks.
