The performer gives a stack of blank business cards (about 20) and a bunch of pencils to a spectator and asks her to distribute them to whoever she wants. Originally entitled Artifice Ruse and Subterfuge at the Card Table, is probably the most cited and referenced book about card gambling moves - a classic in the history of magic literature. A must read for any card magician or aspiring gambling expert and an indespensable reference book. While the authorship of this book is hotly debated we are convinced it was Edward Gallaway. Effect:

The spectator selects a card from the performer’s deck and does not reveal it to the performer until requested to do so. The performer then shows a packet of four Jokers to the spectator, displaying the faces and backs of all four cards. He then asks the spectator to wave his selected card over the Jokers he is holding in his hand. When the performer turns the packet face up and displays the cards, they are no longer Jokers! Instead, all four cards are now identical to the spectator’s selected card!

But that’s not all! When the performer squares the four cards back together,...

Technically, it must be referred to as a book on "general magic," as it contains material on cards, thimbles, cigarettes and mentalism. But, cards dominate the content so completely that for all practical purposes this must inevitably be thought of as a book on card magic.

This would have been an influential book, an important book, had it been released in 1930 as planned and it remains a valuable text today. Many seminal ideas first appear (or would have) here. But it is perhaps even more exciting to unearth less well known but equally deserving items....
