Sleight of Hand

Edwin Sachs
Sleight of Hand by Edwin Sachs

This is an all time classic with 57 beautiful illustrations. It is one of the most complete books written on magic, because it teaches both stage and close-up magic (cards, coins, silks, cups and balls, etc.), technique, presentation, and all the peripheral skills necessary for great conjuring.

"I beg to say that it is far and away the very best work of its kind ever published" - Harry Kellar

"My den contains a large collection of books on magic, but none has a cover so worn as 'Sleight of Hand' by Edwin Sachs." - David Devant

The official byline read: The standard texbook on how to become a magician. Sleight-of-hand...

Inside Out: In the book Alternative Card Magic (See CardZones), I included a trick called, 'Inside Job'. I have since published a couple of variations. However, this is the first that requires no significant set-up.

New Hue View: An outgrowth from a previous effect of mine called "A Piece of Fred" that appeared in Obsession. Both this and...

The Complete Eye-Openers by Ralph W. Hull & Paul Gordon

Comprising Eye-Openers and More Eye-Openers plus R. W. Hull's Supreme Mental Discernment.

Paul Fleming wrote about More Eye-Openers:

The late Ralph W. Hull was a tireless originator in the field of magic, and was particularly active in devising amazing mysteries with playing cards. The Tuned Deck, which he described as "my most cherished trick," was accorded nineteen pages in the monumental work, Greater Magic. Other Ralph W. Hull specialties have appeared in the form of pamphlets, one of which is the subject of this review.

John Northern Hilliard wrote a foreword to More Eye Openers, in which he...

Number 5 is the culmination of many years spent searching for a simple to remember, impromptu routine which delivers not only an impossible magical/psychic climax, but also a personal reading which people will remember and talk about.

This routine isn't restricted to close up use. Scott has performed it many times on stage, in cabaret and in a lecture environment using nothing more than a flip chart and a marker pen.

Versatility is something Scott tries to build into every routine he uses as part of his professional repertoire and this routine is no exception, with ideas for multiple readings...

It is easy to sing the praises for Slydini. He was one of the most influential close-up magicians of recent history. Probably nobody sufficiently knowledgeable in magic will dispute this. The only other names which I would mention in the same breath are Dai Vernon, Edward Marlo and Arturo Ascanio. (I am excluding any living masters from this list or magicians far into the past.)
