The following is a complete card routine created by U.F. Grant a long, long time ago. You will find it mysterious, entertaining and practically unknown by modern generations.

EFFECT: A series of bewildering effects with a deck of cards shuffled by spectators.

1. A deck of cards is shuffled by spectators. A card is chosen and returned to the deck. Performer puts cards in trouser pocket and spells the name of the chosen card. The last card results to be the chosen one.

2. A spectator now chooses another card. The deck is cut. Tell the spectators that you have X-ray eyes and can see...

Rise Up is a rising card effect that uses a small gimmick that can be constructed at home with available items. It is easy to construct. You have full control over the rise. Stop the rise at your wish or stop it when spectators says stop.

The Flying Carpet Illusion - U.F. Grant's updated floating lady with a kicker.

The carpet and the spectator revolve in mid-air at the same time. The spectators see all sides. A small platform on casters is rolled to any spot on the floor desired. Resting on the platform is a beautifully decorated two-fold screen. It supports a platform with gold fringe representing a carpet. The carpet seat is tufted and padded for comfort, and it shows up well at a distance.

A person weighing up to 110 pounds sits cross-legged on the carpet. Then two chrome-like swords are placed on the bottom platform...

Do not confuse this with Blackstone's Dancing Handkerchief. This method does not have to be done on stage and requires no assistants like the Blackstone version does.

Borrow a handkerchief and a hat or use your own. Tie a knot into the handkerchief and toss into the empty hat. In a few seconds, the handkerchief peeks out of the hat and jumps into your hands. Place the handkerchief on the floor and it stands straight up by itself and starts dancing around. It jumps into your hands and then floats between your outstretched hands. The magician can even walk into the audience with the handkerchief floating...

This is the first official release U.F. Grant made in 1928. This came before his 45 Tricks, and was an amazing rope trick well before its time that introduced the magic world to the genius of Grant. Very rare and seldom seen.

EFFECT: A length of rope is displayed measuring about 3 feet long. This can be passed for examination before and after the trick. The rope is taken and the ends tied together. The performer states the rope can be cut and restored in any section of the loop. He proceeds to cut the rope 3 or 4 inches from the knot and then restoring it there. It is again cut; this time in the center...

King Koko is a satirical performance piece, written for the stage by the one and only Professor Hoffmann.

Your audiences will love this amusing farce about a colorful King, his beautiful daughter, her fairy godmother, and the two suitors that are trying to win her hand in marriage. Along the way, 20 magical illusions are performed that add to the enchanting tale.

Effect: A single column of want ads cut from any newspaper is freely shown. It is not gimmicked or prepared in any way. Holding the strip vertically, you start to snip ads from the bottom of the strip, one at a time, until a spectator...

Here's a terrific book containing ten tricks, using cards, a magic wand, rope, and other items associated with the magic arts. Most of the effects require no special apparatus. What little is needed can easily be constructed. We think modern performers will really enjoy the card rise, where the action takes place with a borrowed deck! Also of interest will be "Through the Five-Spot," which is an impossible solid-through-solid effect where a five of spades visibly melts through the center of the magician's wand.

A card trick that is flashy and plays big, it is suitable for parlor or stage and requires no skill.

Four Queens are each seen in four glass tumblers facing outward. Each Queen is then turned back outward and returned to its glass. Three indifferent cards are placed in each glass with the first three Queens. The fourth Queen is left by herself in the fourth glass.

The performer waves his hands and the magic happens. The cards are removed from the first glass. There are only three cards, the Queen has vanished. This is repeated with the next two glasses. Finally, the card is removed from...

Here is a rare release from the past by G. W. Magnuson. In the 40s, he put out a booking system for mentalists. It showed an easy way to get into theaters with your mind reading show. This system was used by most of the prominent mentalists in the 40s and 50s including Bob Nelson.

Believe it or not, this almost forgotten system still works today, but on a more limited basis. If you are a mentalist looking to fill in some of your open dates, then you may find Magnuson's ideas to be of use.

A forgotten trick from the past that was first invented by Howard Thurston and used in his big show. The effect is that the magician invites up a boy from the audience and without touching the boy, he gestures toward the boy and the boy's hair stands on its end running from the front to back the back of his head, like a magical ripple.
