You predict in advance which card will be named! Easy and fun.

This and That was a big seller back in the mid 1980's when the "Oscar" and "Phil" craze were at their peaks.

A spectator names any card (free choice) and you display that your deck has marked backs. They are all marked like "THIS" you say as you display cards in the deck as having the word "THIS" written on it's back. That's every card, but one. The selected card, on the other hand, has the word "THAT" written on it's back. Proving you know "this from that!"

Effect:
Two red Jacks are placed on the table. A card is freely selected and signed before it is lost in the deck. One of the Jacks is placed on top of the deck and the other on the bottom of the deck. The magician waves his hand over the deck, magically, the first Jack vanishes and upon flipping over the deck, the second Jack seems to have vanished, too. The deck is spread and a face-down card is trapped in between the Jacks and this proves to be the spectator's selection.

You bought a box of vintage things in an estate sale and inside the box you found a creepy old cassette tape. You managed to find a tape player and what you heard was somewhat unsettling causing you to go quickly look at the pack of playing cards you have sitting on your coffee table. Imagine this: You borrow a quarter from a spectator and have it initialed with a Sharpie marker. You take a pack of cigarettes and place the quarter on top of the pack. You have the spectator cover the quarter with a hand and say you’ll cause the coin to pass completely through the pack. You make a magical pass and have the spectator lift her hand. Only...the quarter’s still there. You ask the spectator to pick up the quarter. She tries but her fingers slide right over the coin. Impossibly the coin is under the cellophane! You clearly show the pack is unopened and unmarked in any way. You...

This is one of Gugliemli's several methods for the open prediction that he is glad to offer all magicians. It should be noted that this effect does not respect all of the conditions set by Stewart James for his “51 Faces North”. This is a good Impromptu solution. It relies on sleight of hand to reach a 100% successful ending, but Tommaso tried to design the method to hide the “dirty work” and he has included 6 different techniques to hopefully meet the needs/styles of everyone. You could start this effect like this:

This is a hands-off and impromptu card effect.

This effect should be presented as a mental experience rather than a card trick. The patter could be around complementarity or duality. You can talk about Yin and Yang, Black and White, Heads and Tails, Male and Female, etc. At the end of your introduction, you explain that in a deck of cards, this is represented by the two colors RED and BLACK.

A Spectator shuffles the cards and cuts it in two piles. He thinks of a color RED or BLACK and counts secretly how many cards of this color are in his pile (for example 7), while your back is turned....

Although it does not meet all the criteria of a 'perfect ACAAN', this method still has many advantages:

• 100% impromptu and examinable
• deck is normal - it can be borrowed and shuffled by the participant
• ideal for close up and table hopping
• Very direct
• Very practical in live performance
• Strong impact on the audience
• Very simple to perform (from beginner to advanced but requires sleight-of-hand)
• Can be done with different sleights for the card control and for the counting. This allows you to repeat the effect.

This manuscript features six routines from Paul Voodini, all utilizing a marked deck. As well as fully explaining the routines, Paul also discusses many subtleties that allow the performer to use a marked deck with confidence and the 'tricks of the trade' that mean the spectators never suspect for a moment that there is anything 'funny' about the cards.

This has nothing to do with Lager Beer, but a lot with David Regal. REGAL read backwards is LAGER and that's where the name comes from. David's excellent "Clarity Box" that he marketed was the inspiration, in fact I actually use his box in this video (although you could use any container or suitable drinking glass).

This is my handling with the UNPREPARED crystal box, acchieving the same result: a folded card, which has been in full view inside the box is switched out for a signed card. This is a no-frill switch for the worker with a heavy rentention of vision aspect to it.

The spectator's cut to the four sandwiches is a succession of magical effects. The magician takes his two lucky cards from the deck: the two of hearts and the two of diamonds. The spectator examines the two cards. The magician shuffles the deck and asks the spectator to cut it into four piles. This is where the fun part begins. Each time the magician approaches the two lucky cards to one of the piles, a card will mysteriously appear between the two lucky cards. A spectator card is floating over the deck instantly. This effect was inspired by several classic versions from different magicians but this one uses a different gimmick. Easy to create. Easy to perform. Requires some arts and crafts to construct the gimmick.

Balance small objects on the edge of a card. The gimmick is easy to make but finicky to use. Also, watch your angles. Great for one-on-one or video shots but not so great with multiple spectators. The gimmick does not involve a thread, reel, or magnets.
