The great packet tricks of Nick Trost. All the tricks require special cards (not supplied but easily obtainable) or simply duplicates of some cards.

• UN-CARDS: A beautiful prediction effect using blank-faced cards (the Un-Cards). The selected card is shown to be the only red card of the packet. The prediction says, “YOU WILL SELECT THE RED CARD.”

The performer shows a blue deck of cards and has a card freely selected from the face up deck. There is no force. He has a participant sign his name on the face of the card. This signed-card is then placed into a window envelope. The audience can see the BLUE back of the card through the glassine window. This envelope is propped up and left in full view. The performer introduces a BLANK FACE card that has a RED back; this is examined by the participant and found to be ungimmicked. This blank face card is placed inside a second window envelope so the red back shows through the glassine window....

The original trick, first released by Devin Knight in 1972 and long off the market. It is available again, after being one of his most popular effects during a recent lecture tour. You show a deck of cards and have a lady freely select a card. There is no force. The lady may sign the card if you wish. The card is returned to the deck and lost.

You tell the lady that you will give her magical powers and that she will find her card with magic. This always intrigues the lady you are performing it for. You ask the lady to blow a kiss toward the deck. The deck is spread and an image of a kiss...

This is a fun routine in which two cards are selected from two different colored packets. The selected cards trade packets 3 times, each time seemingly more impossible than the last. The methods are intriguing because the "move" comes after the effect. At first glance, this routine will appear complicated and convoluted. However, after working through the routine, and getting comfortable and familiar with it, you will see that it is rather simple.

• The painter of the aces: Four white cards are printed slowly on both sides, transforming one by one and in a visual way, in four aces of the deck. The aces prove to be clearly printed both by the faces and by the backs. The cards are ordinary and can be examined immediately.

In effect, a card is selected and signed. The card is then cleanly torn into four separate pieces. The pieces are then placed between the fingers ala The Multiplying Billiard Balls, and the hands are otherwise empty (they really are!). The pieces are then gathered up one at a time. Each side of each piece is clearly shown. The bundled pieces then instantly pop open in a "flash". The card is fully restored and given to the spectator to keep as a souvenir.

The performer shows three cards: two jokers, and the queen of hearts. The queen of hearts is the money card. All the spectators have to do is follow the queen. No matter how hard they try, it just isn't possible. The queen is anywhere but where they think she is. Finally, in an effort to make it easier to follow, one of the jokers is set aside. The queen is mixed with the one remaining joker. Instantly, the queen has vanished leaving only two jokers in your hands. Four cards are shown. They are the Four Aces. The cards are given a "twist" and when the cards are again counted it is seen that one of the aces has turned face down. This is repeated three more times, each time an ace has turned face down until all four aces are face down. The magician offers to explain how the trick was accomplished.
