"Really interesting combination of principles in there. I especially liked Eight Envelopes, Asymmetric Oil & Water, Yet 2 and Coin and Card ESP. The Plaid Eared Rabbit contains a very clever use of an old Tenyo prop." - Raphaël Czaja

Coincidence at Play

Jay Jennings
Read more about Coincidence at Play by Jay Jennings

A fun close-up or parlor magic routine (with a mentalism flavor and an "OMG!" ending) that revolves around the game of chess.

The Effect: The performer shows six square cards, each with the image of a chess board setup. On each card, a different piece is missing - a pawn on one, a rook on another, etc. He then shows the backs of those cards, and each is numbered from 1 to 6. Those cards are laid aside for now.

A deck of cards is introduced, and instead of playing cards on the faces, there are pictures of chess pieces, one piece on each card. A spectator is asked to pull a card from the...

"Power-Trip Sparkling, Turbulence Brilliant and VapoRise Amazing. Three excellent card tricks. Well done - keep up the good work." - Thomas Connelly (UK)

You offer to present a magic show using seven cards. You show an Ace, Two, Three and Four plus three Jokers. The A 2 3 & 4 are the performers. The Ace, you say, is the lightest card because it has the least ink on it, whereas the Four is the heaviest. The lightest card — the Ace — is placed into the Joker packet and it instantly rises to the top. You now add the Two to the Ace and place both cards into the Joker packet — both...

An uncanny demonstration of apparent thought-reading.

THREE SMASH HITS: You show a packet of cards (saying that it contains the four Queens) and leave it aside. You also show another packet of four cards and they are seen to be the four Queens. A spectator FREELY touches any card and this is revealed to be, say, the QC.

FIRST EFFECT: The QC is seen to be the only reversed card in the other packet.

SECOND EFFECT: This card has a red back, while the other three are blue-backed cards.

THIRD EFFECT: The three blue-backed cards are seen to have blank faces.
