Julien J. Proskauer

Julien J. Proskauer(New York City, NY: 14th June 1893 - 18th December 1958).

Printer-businessman. Amateur magician since 1909 and psychic investigator. Aka "Psycho". SAM President 1935-36. Headed the splinter group from the SAM that founded the Magicians Guild of America in 1944. Published The New Conjurors' Magazine 1945-47.

Wrote Spook Crooks! (1932, 300pp); How'd ja do That? (1934, 92pp), a piracy of Johnston and Sterling's Modern Card Miracles (1919); Suckers All! (1934, 318pp); Puzzles for Everyone (191pp); and The Dead Do Not Talk (1946, 198pp, ghosted by Walter B. Gibson). Articles in Sphinx and The New Conjurors' Magazine and tricks in Genii.

 

Roberto Giobbi

Roberto Giobbi... Basel.

Besides his famous Card College series, Giobbi has authored multiple other bestsellers. Among them are titles such as Ask Roberto, Secret Twitter, and his excellent sleightless entry into card magic: Card College Light Trilogy. Rev Dr. John [William Nicholls] Booth, LittD, MIMC. Inspired at age 10 by a magic set. Learned at age 14 from W.J. Armstrong ("Armah"). Semi-pro at 15 (in 1927). Edited-published Canada's second (after W.G. Edwards's Edwards Monthly) magic magazine, The Canadian Magician's Digest (1929, 3 issues). Organized the first Canadian magic convention (Hamilton, Ontario) 18-19 Apr 1931. Pro 1934 - Mar 1940, as a prominent society, nightclub, and hotel magician. In 1938 also worked alternate venues as "Jancini". 1937 Sphinx Award.

Then an ordained Unitarian minister (1942 until retired in 1975). Part-time pro celebrity platform lecturer 1943 - 58, touring...

 

Larry White

Paul Gordon

Wrote Novel Magic (1932; repr 1946, 43pp), Torn and Restored Magazine Cover (1939, 8pp; 2nd ed 1953, 9pp), Super Card Mysteries [1933], Five Star Card Effects (1943), Fifteen Star Card Effects (1956, 26pp), Totally Refreshing Ideas and Carefully Kept Secrets (1966, 38pp), and Lu Brent's Best Magic Tricks (2 vols, 1969, 1974, 42pp+45pp). George McAthy

George McAthy... for his ventriloquism and comedy magic act at conventions, George also loved to write and invent magic effects with a comedic twist. Effects invented by McAthy include the "Pink Elephants and Purple Cows" sucker card trick and "Mandroop's Insurance Policy".

McAthy appeared on the cover of Genii in 1944 and again in 1967. Abbott's Magic featured George on the cover of its Tops magazine in February 1944. He was also recognized by his peers in the International Brotherhood of Magicians, appearing on the cover of its monthly journal, The Linking Ring, in 1953.
