These are the lectures notes for a lecture Aldo gave at FISM.

Tip Top: the magician displays several cards bearing pictures of clowns, having different colored noses. A spectator selects a clown and the performer is seen to have the same colored clown nose... on his nose!

Poppy: a knot, tied in the middle of a piece of white rope, slides to one end, then the other; then change color. The different colored knot slides along the rope several times; the knot is then untied and seen to actually be a two inch section of the white rope.

Aldo Colombini teaches the routine with which he won the close-up competition at FISM 1976 in Vienna, Austria. It includes ideas by Dai Vernon, Charlie Miller, Pete Biro and Larry Jennings, as well as many original elements by Aldo himself.

This is a basic color change to change the top face-up card of a deck.

A very easy, commercial and entertaining color changing knife routine in several phases. With ideas by Ken Brooke, Ascanio and Juan Tamariz. For close-up and walk around. A white knife (or any color) changes to black. You simply say that you are using TWO knives so you produce a white one. The two knives change places a few times and at the end everything can be examined (obviously you have to bring your own knives)!

A very visual effect that is very easy to perform. You take out a red Sharpie and change it to a black Sharpie with a simple flick of your hand. This is so easy to do and a great off beat effect whenever you need a card signed.

An amazing two-pack coincidence routine.

The performer exhibits two decks of cards, one red, the other blue. He picks up one deck and shows it to be quite ordinary, both back and front. He asks a spectator to assist by placing the deck face-down behind his back and cutting it any number of times, completing the cut each time then to remove two or three cards from the deck and place them in his (spectator's) pocket without looking at them.

He then requests spectator to square the pack and bring it from behind his back held in such a manner so that performer cannot get a glimpse of any card....

The performer shows the face of a 5-of-Diamonds playing card. A quick shake and the pips have changed their color from red to black. Another shake and it changes to the 5-of-Clubs.

Requires some arts and crafts to construct the gimmicked card.

A magician shows a card with cut-out pips and puts it into a playing card box. The spectator selects a card. When the magician takes out the cut-out pips card from the case and shows it one more time, it suddenly changes to a card without cut-out pips, and when turned face-up it has changed into the spectator's card.

You show four blank cards. Progressively their backs become blue, then faces of queens appear, then their backs become red, and finally all their backs change to yet another new back.

A spectator forms a pattern of face-up and face-down cards which unaccountably separates the colors. This happens despite the spectator shuffling the cards repeatedly. A killer packet effect featuring a nifty four of a kind production/appearance with a totally unexpected color-change finale.

Requires only regular spare cards you've likely got lying around! Featuring two awesome bonus effects:

• NEAR-SIGHTED JACK SANDWHICH: A killer double sandwich routine using the two one-eyed jacks, but with a little difficulty. Eventually, the other two jacks make a surprise appearance.
• FINE FEATHERED FINKS: A no-palm "homing-card"-type routine where a selected card jumps between a packet of jacks and the deck.

The four aces are removed from a red backed deck. The Ace of Spades is placed on top of the red deck as the three other aces are lost one by one into a blue deck. After a magical gesture, the aces disappear from the blue backed deck and reappear on top of the red deck, under the Ace of Spades!

The Colors on the March act consists of five interconnected routines. The major theme of the act is that of gambling - a topic that immediately captures the interest of both men and women. Notice how the requirements of each routine are secretly attained long in advance of the routine's performance, thus making the performer always several steps ahead or his audience. Also note...

You start with four cards that are blank on both sides. A magic gesture and they have suddenly backs and faces.

A blue backed deck is removed from its case. The deck is spread and your spectators are asked to call out the names of some cards that they see. You then take the named cards and, one by one, begin to magically change their back colour from blue to red. Offering a better look at the technique you announce that you will change the back of another card...

With a gentle wave of your hand, the card begins to visibly change. The card actually appears to change as you move your hand back and forth over it! You pause halfway - the card under your hand is half blue and half...

A blue-backed deck is openly displayed and one card is selected from the face-down deck. Cutting the selection back into the pack and shuffling the deck, the performer offers to find the selection quickly and effectively.

Snapping his fingers over the deck, he turns the cards face down and spreads through the entire deck to reveal that every card back has changed from blue to red, except for just one card, and that turns out to be the selected card!

No sleight of hand is required, this is designed to instantly re-set in front of the spectators and everything takes place up in your hands,...

You introduce a deck of cards and five different coloured pens. You have a spectator freely select a card, after which the card is lost back into the deck. They are now invited to select some, or all, of the pens. Let's say they pick three pens: RED, ORANGE and GREEN. The remaining pens are discarded. You ask them to take each pen and write a single-digit number with it. This results in three written digits, each of a different colour. For example: 7 3 5.

Turning to a second spectator, you ask her to mix the three pens so that they are in a random order. The three written digits are now re-arranged...
