If I ask: "Do you know June Barrows Mussey?" I get a blank stare. If I continue: "you know Henry Hay?" then suddenly the response is: "Certainly. He wrote The Amateur Magician's Handbook."

June Barrows Mussey, alias Henry Hay was a remarkable man who had a magical upbringing. Imagine, a boy of just 14 years old going on an international magic tour in the U.S. all by himself; a year later he went alone to Europe, the Dutch authorities made great trouble when he wanted to enter their country because they felt he was too young. His parents and particularly...

Frances Marshall
A Magic Primer by Frances Marshall

There have been a number of 'introductions' to magic published, but we never felt they hit he right note. We have always felt the need of a first book for the newcomer - a primer, as it were. Frances Marshall has now put together a volume that will take the newness and strangeness out of the world of magic. With the aid of Jay Marshall, she has arranged a glossary of words and terms that are familiar to the initiated magician, but gibberish to the newcomer to our field. The ebook begins when laymen (young or old) discover magic. Maybe they see a TV spectacular, or a big magic show, or a friend fools them...

Larry Jennings
A Logical Conclusion by Larry Jennings

A trick with eight cards. Two packets of four cards are put on the table. The first packet is counted and shown to consist of four 3s. The second is counted and shown to consist of four 7s. Then the packets are combined turned face up to show the Ace of Hearts through the Eight of Hearts. So essentially the four 3s and the four 7s have transformed into the Ace through 8 of hearts.

This effect can also be found in Cardwright. You will need to be able to do the Rhythm Count.

Scott F. Guinn
A Little Something by Scott F. Guinn

In this ebook you will find material that entertains and amazes, but more importantly, it is material that 'mere mortals' can actually do. Two dozen incredible routines. Cards, coins, and parlor/platform material is included.

Nothing is duplicated from Scott's other ebooks, lecture notes, or DVD--with one exception, and that has been greatly expanded and updated.

These routines bear the Guinn trademarks of clever thinking and thoughtful construction, from a man who has been called "one of our best close-up and stand-up performers" (Aldo Colombini, in The Linking Ring) and "one of the best writers in...

A Little Magic Among Friends by Will Dexter

Excerpt from the Preface:

So it's a mixed bag. But all the tricks have one thing in common; each can be performed to a small audience in the home. One or two (I have "Pseudo-Graphology" and "Question and Answer" especially in mind) are good for performance to a larger audience, as well as to just half a dozen friends.

Every one has been thoroughly tried out and is practical and entertaining. According to your personality and style, I am sure you will find something in this book to entertain your audiences.

All the more so when all the more he read, avidly buying each new Al Leech book when published and adding to his repertoire such notably outstanding effects as "The Hot Card Trick," "Double Deuce" and "Ace Location" among many.

After buying all of Leech's books Anthony discovered more of Leech's material was scattered throughout other magic...

With only a wireless doorbell, a stenographer's pad, and the routine you'll find here, your audiences will now get to enjoy listening in on your conversation with a child as you ask them a series of questions while they're supposedly holding a lie detector between their hands.

Please note that the way this is currently routined it is not a magic trick per se but rather an interlude that might be used to test your volunteer before using him/her in a magic trick.

And from a performer's point of view, here's what I believe to be the best part. This three to five minute routine requires NO...

Jon Racherbaumer
A Hobsonian Handbook by Jon Racherbaumer

Explorations, examples, and routines using equivoque.

Hobson's Choice: the choice of taking either what is offered or nothing else; the absence of choice. [after Thomas Hobson (1544-1631) of Cambridge, England, who rented horses and gave only one choice, that of the horse nearest the stable door]
Equivoque or Magician's Choice in its myriad of forms is considered a First Principle by students of mentalism. What fascinates me is the elusiveness of this subject because no one has yet written a definitive, synoptic, and detailed magnum opus on the subject. There have been good piecemeal accounts written here and there about and most magicians understand how it basically works in specific cases; however, trying to ferret out its...
