When he published this effect, Karson was riding the crest of his wave of popularity. International award-winning Australian magician Joel Howlett was a very close friend to the late Jim McKeague. Jim was not only a magician but also a magic historian and author of The Best 200 Tricks With A Svengali Deck.

Hofzinser was born at the beginning of the 19th century and lived in Vienna during a time called the 'Biedermeier'. This was a time where people enjoyed art and entertainment in drawing-room presentations and at little receptions in the houses and villas of the rich and famous.
