Tommaso Guglielmi
Open Prediction by Tommaso Guglielmi

This is one of Gugliemli's several methods for the open prediction that he is glad to offer all magicians. It should be noted that this effect does not respect all of the conditions set by Stewart James for his “51 Faces North”. This is a good Impromptu solution. It relies on sleight of hand to reach a 100% successful ending, but Tommaso tried to design the method to hide the “dirty work” and he has included 6 different techniques to hopefully meet the needs/styles of everyone. This method will require some practice before the performer can swiftly and confidently present the effect. ...

Jack Merlin
... and a Pack of Cards by Jack Merlin

This publication is in my opinion among the best books on cards ever written, but it is rarely mentioned or recommended. I am not sure why this is. Perhaps one reason is that Jack Merlin himself has not left a large footprint in the magic literature besides this one publication. He has a published trick in Expert Card Technique and if you read Card College 1 you will have learned the Jack Merlin's Riffle Shuffle. Farelli mentions in his Farell's Card Magic: "I agree with Mr. Jack Merlin that the custom of continually practicing in front of a glass is the cause of the unfortunate habit many magicians have of blinking at the precise moment of performing...

(Benny) Ben Harris
5th Corner by (Benny) Ben Harris

A flash back to 1987 and a "long lost" manuscript, seen by only ten: Jerry Andrus, David Britland, Jeff Busby, Dave Faulkner, David Harkey, Ed Marlo, Dan McArthy, Harvey Rosenthal, Jay Sankey and Mark Trudinger, made it's brief, and only appearance... then, it was gone!

So what is the 5th Corner? It's a splash of ideas and techniques with a single playing card and it's ripped corners. You are both "one ahead" and "two behind" at the SAME TIME. This charming but annoying attribute is what probably led to the stony silence heard by the author in 1987. Can YOU make head-way with this strange and bizarre single-card oddity? Why not give...

Aldo Colombini
Vortex: an incredible routine using two regular decks of cards by Aldo Colombini

A small ebook but what exciting contents! The routine uses just two regular decks of cards. Lewis Ganson on the pages of Magigram wrote,

"This is a really super 'Do as I do' routine. The routine starts in the classic way and then enlarges on the theme; the spectator and performer continuing to match cards from their respective decks until a whole series of apparent coincidences have occurred. The final display of matched cards is both amazing and spectacular."

The effect: A spectator freely selects a card from, say, a red-backed deck and the performer removes a card from a blue-backed deck. When turned...

Raphaël Czaja
Final Countdown by Raphaël Czaja

A card is selected and outjogged from a deck which is then put on the table. Now, you bring out a packet of five prediction cards that you show to have all red backs and fronts (all different), saying one of them must be the selection.

You explain that the cards will help you, not to find the right one, but to eliminate the four wrong ones!

After some magical gesture:

  • One card gets a cross drawn onto its face.
  • The back of a second card turns blue.
  • A third card reverses itself.
  • A message appears on the back of a fourth card saying: "NOT THIS ONE!".
You're left with one card, let's...

A Set-Up With Aldo by Aldo Colombini

I am sure that we would all agree that it is the EFFECT THAT IS ALL IMPORTANT and that some of the most astounding effects in card magic can be obtained by setting up the cards in a certain order before the performance commences.

Here are five routines of Aldo which depend on set-ups.

  • CRAZY POKER: The wildest Poker demonstration ever.
  • KNOCK-OUT SPELL: Spelling procedures reveal incredible coincidences.
  • ROYAL CUTS: The four Kings and the four Aces are produced in a surprising manner.
  • JUNGLE JAM: A spectator cuts off a portion of a deck. The next two cards are dealt face up and their...

Andrew Loh
Collectors Card Case by Andrew Loh

This is Andrew's handling of Roy Walton’s “The Collectors” plot. If you are familiar with his original plot, here, the magic moment takes place in the card case and it has served Andrew well over the years. He developed this handling while he was playing a number of “The Collectors” effects during the afternoon in the year of 2006.

Effect: The performer places three Kings in the card case. The performer then proceeds to have two spectators to freely choose two cards from the deck. The two selections are signed and lost in the deck. The performer waves his hand over the card case...
