Dale A. Hildebrandt
A Quiet Corner by Dale A. Hildebrandt

A Quiet Corner was originally published in Nathan Spark’s ebook Tattoo and reprinted in Heavily Haunted: Second Edition. Here is what Don Theo III had to say about A Quiet Corner:

"Subtitled "Various Tips, Techniques, Pieces and Parts." Prepare yourself before diving into this entry. This is a walk on the wild side, led by the delicious madness that is Dale Hildebrandt. Dale goes really deep with this, and it's obvious he really put forth a lot of time and effort. Since first reading his work, I have always wanted to attend a lecture by Dale just for the pure experience. This is about as close as it gets without having him right...

Dale A. Hildebrandt
A Nite of Dumb Poker by Dale A. Hildebrandt

"A Nite Of Dumb Poker is full of excellent stuff, with some twists "Hildebrandt style" and it is a refreshing and interesting read for people who love playing cards and for people who don't!" - Paolo Cavalli

Here is what you will find in A Nite Of Dumb Poker:

Section One: Linked Routines. These are eight generic routines that are routined for maximum impact. I've added a couple twists to a couple of the effects, but the important lesson with Section One is one on routining. You will see a natural progression from one routine to the next. These routines are things which are considered...

Romanos
The Phone Trick by Romanos

This only currently works only on iPhone devices.

This is not an app, it is not a pre-recorded message and the number they generate can be seen in your recent calls.

Imagine inviting someone to choose a playing card and to put it, out of sight, without looking at it. You then ask a selection of people to create a random mobile phone number. You phone the number they have created and, when the person answers the phone, you ask them to name any playing card. They name the card that was chosen by the spectator. This is a real reputation maker and one that we guarantee you will be performing....

Gerard Zitta
Five Fingers Game by Gerard Zitta

This is one of my favorite routines with fingers.

Effect:

"Please tell us a color." The freely named color is written on a single business card (or somewhere else). "Interesting... I bet I can influence you now to choose a certain finger for instance." You take a bill from your wallet. (The participant can bet as well.) You show your hand (or you draw a hand on the business card or another one): "Please point to any finger." The spectator freely points to a finger, and of course, this is the one you wanted her to select.

  • It is that direct: They announce their choice, and you conclude....

Devin Knight
Flame Revelation by Devin Knight

NOTE: Matchbooks packets are sold in boxes of 50 in some grocery stores and tobacco shops. They are readily available on Amazon.com and eBay.com. Bars that still allow smoking often have FREE advertising matchbooks. Hotels that have smoking rooms often have matchbooks at the front desk.

This is #2 in Devin Knight's Forgotten Magic Series. The first release in the series was Unknown Forces.

Flame Revelation was invented and used by mediums in the early 20s according to Al Mann. Mediums claimed that spirits of the dead were often in fire. The technique was used as a form of spirit writing to prove contact with...

Nick Conticello
Pyramid Prophecies by Nick Conticello

From the introduction:

This ebook is a bit of a departure for me. The material is mathematical, but it need not be performed with playing cards. It can be performed with pencil and paper close-up, or with a blackboard or a dry-erase white board in platform or stage settings. Thus it can be employed in situations when the use of playing cards would be inappropriate. However, I will describe these effects with playing cards as that is how I use them.

The basic idea is that the performer predicts the sum of a seemingly random array of cards or numbers. The spectator has quite a bit of control...

Gerard Zitta
Mosaics by Gerard Zitta

With this flexible system or combination of principles, you will be able to create your own effects like this one: Example of effect:

"Do you think you are influenceable? I bet you are..."

You show a business card with the five ESP symbols. The spectator freely points to one of them. This is the one you predicted.

  • The basic effect is not new, but it is that direct and quick: They announce their choice, and you conclude.
  • There is apparently no 'process', no force, no fumbling, etc. in between.
  • It uses common objects (pen, index card/paper, etc.).
  • Any patter or presentation can be...

I. Prendergast
Spook Mystery by I. Prendergast

A classic text that exposes the actual methods employed by fraudulent mediums and psychics!

Written by a lawman-turned psychic detective, this is the real work that lays bare how unscrupulous operators fleeced their victims while posing as mediums and spirit guides. Robert A. Nelson, purveyor of all things psychic, praised this work in his early catalogs.

Descriptions and methods described include:

  • Spirit Paintings
  • Spirit Table that Talks
  • Mental Thought Projection in Lighted Room
  • Producing Spirits in Vacant Room
  • Materalization Seance
  • Mental Telepathy - Second Sight Reading
  • Parlor Clairvoyance ...

Devin Knight & Al Mann
The Glass Box Headline Prediction by Devin Knight & Al Mann

These are the original directions that came with a clear plastic box and papers. You do not need any special plastic box as any small clear box can be used. If you already own the more expensive Glass Box Revisited ebook then you already have most of this information as most of this was reprinted in that ebook.

Back in 1986 Devin Knight who performed as a professional psychic shocked the world with a headline prediction that involved the Newfoundland plane crash that killed over 200 people. The prediction had been held by a state senator. News of this went worldwide and the story was carried in over 2000 newspapers....

Gerard Zitta
Sim(h)ilarity by Gerard Zitta

Have you ever noticed that sometimes daughters and mothers look similar, not only because of genes, but also the way they dress, their hair style or colour, their glasses, etc. Same thing with pets, especially dogs. Sometimes, they really look like their owner.

In this ebook, you will find some ressources to use this idea in packet tricks, using images instead of playing cards. The impact on your audience will be much bigger and entertaining.

Example of effect:

You show a bunch of photos in one pile, and you show another pile face down, without showing the photos. "There is a sosie...

Gerard Zitta
Auld Times Modern Times by Gerard Zitta

This is a useful effect for those who don't like tricks with smart phones, computers, etc. or if you perform for an audience who doesn't like them either. But it works very well also for computer addicts.

Effect:

You place a prediction in a glass or in full view. You write a list of activities (For instance: Reading, Play Music, Work, etc.). The participant chooses one of them (There is absolutely no force).

And now the "crescendo":

  • You show your prediction and it was right (this one is an optional gag, or pretext for getting your audience involved).
  • On the pen there was another...

Gerard Zitta
Three Graces by Gerard Zitta

This is a funny little trick and a very simple plot. You can carry it in your wallet and always be ready, anytime, anywhere, or you prepare it in larger format, and perform it for larger audiences.

Effect:

You show an image of three ladies. The spectator selects one of them, and it was predicted on the back. It is also a funny visual gag. Very entertaining, simple, direct, easy to do, instant reset, and practical.

Timothy Wade
My Mind in Your Pocket by Timothy Wade

A mind reading card effect which takes place in the hands of the spectator.

The performer, with back turned, asks a spectator to make a choice between four identical face down decks in a row. When the selection is made he/she is told to pick up the chosen deck under which is one of the performer's business cards. Before examining the business card the spectator is asked to shuffle the deck and place it back on the table. This done, the spectator is asked to look at what is on the back of the business card and then place it in a pocket or somewhere else out of site. Lastly the spectator is...

B. W. McCarron
Strange Truths by B. W. McCarron

A great audience participation effect. Ideal for corporate shows and parties.

EFFECT: Several spectators are asked to think of an unusual job that they have held during their career. Another spectator thinks of an unusual occupation that he or she has never held.

The spectators write their jobs on any paper. They place their folded billets in a bowl or basket in plain sight.

The performer then reveals the strange but true occupations and identifies which of them is the false one, as well! A solid 4-6 minutes of mental fun for any act. Plays big, packs small. The gimmick (yes there is...

Dee Christopher
The Block Peek by Dee Christopher

As mentalists, we constantly hunt for new ways to gather the secret thoughts of our audiences. We force the people we meet to think in particular ways, or find deceptive techniques to find out thoughts when we give them free reign on what to create in their minds. This manuscript deals with a solution for the latter concept.

"In the words of Borat; I LIKE!!!" - Ben Williams (Creator of Labelled/Re-Labelled)

Benefits:

  • Very Organic, in terms of props and method
  • Easy to do, with expansion possibilities (peeking multiple thoughts) when you become more dexterous with the gimmick. ...

Gerard Zitta
Obscurum per Obscurius by Gerard Zitta

BILL DATES: You predict the bill and the date that a spectator you just met, will take out of his wallet.

THE JANUS FORCE: A business card is fairly selected among five, by throwing a dice, only once (or by freely naming a digit 1 to 6). The result on the back of the card was predicted in advance of course. Furthermore, you can show that the odds should have been against this result, as there were more cards with the opposite outcome. This system can be used to force any choice between two possibilities (for instance: red or black, heads or tails, etc.) even though the other choice had more...

Sean Taylor
News of the World by Sean Taylor

Sean Taylor is one of the top corporate entertainers in Australia. When working to develop an original theatre show with 3 fellow mentalists, he was tasked with writing a closer for the show. It had to be clean and deceptive, it had to be easy to perform, it had to be original and it had to be, in the words of Bob Cassidy, a 'macro' effect. In other words, the WHOLE audience could join in.

Imagine then, sheets of any newspaper being circulated and shredded, a random audience member is asked to select from a bunch of these pieces which are all different and then to narrow to a single piece and then to...

Sean Taylor
Anchors AHoy by Sean Taylor

David Hoy's neo-classic, the Tossed out Deck has become the flavour of many months. Sean Taylor first performed it more than 25 years ago and, over that time, he's dissected it, tweaked it and tried to think long and hard about what the audience really thinks they might be seeing. The result of a quarter century of real work is a handling which is unlike any other. The core methodology is still very much Hoy but the layers of smoke and sheer subtlety which surround it will astound even those who perform this effect right now.

What you have here then is a method which has fooled some of the...

David Devlin
Three Mind Monte by David Devlin

This offering from David Devlin is an incredible mentalism act for the stage that begins with a really cool chair test and a two-phase Three Card Monte using jumbo cards in which the spectators "throw" the cards. Even though the spectators are throwing the Monte while the mentalist's back is turned completely away from the on-stage spectators and can be legitimately blindfolded, he is always able to find the queen!

This may be one of the few acts that feature a chair test that actually serves a purpose beyond fulfilling a prediction. It gets the spectators on stage and gets the Monte cards...

All the effects will look improvised from the audience point of view, but they need a one-time preparation, and all are easy, except for the three last ones that will need more practice and some rehearsal.

ATM wallet: You will do this one every single time you have to pay something. You need an item every magician has got already in their drawer.

X=H3-E2: Rapidly force one object among a higher number of objects. (twice as fast as "PATEO", and easier to perform.)

Phone hypnosis: Block a borrowed phone (harmless), with the power of your mind. Easy.

Alexander May
(Menta)Lists by Alexander May

(Menta)Lists is a revolutionary system that allows the mentalist to predict the outcome of a game of word association.

Everybody is familiar with the game of word association. One person thinks of a word, then the next person says another word that can somehow be associated with it, and so it continues. For example: Frog - Green - Apple - Tree - Squirrel etc.

(Menta)Lists gives you the power to accurately predict the final word that will be named!

With (Menta)Lists they can now select their own words. That's right - they can think of ANY random words that come to mind... and you are...
