Imagine inviting someone to choose a playing card and to put it, out of sight, without looking at it. You then ask a selection of people to create a random mobile phone number. You phone the number they have created and, when the person answers the phone, you ask them to name any playing card. They name the card that was chosen by the spectator. This is a real reputation maker and one that we guarantee you will be performing....

This is one of my favorite routines with fingers.

Effect:

"Please tell us a color." The freely named color is written on a single business card (or somewhere else). "Interesting... I bet I can influence you now to choose a certain finger for instance." You take a bill from your wallet. (The participant can bet as well.) You show your hand (or you draw a hand on the business card or another one): "Please point to any finger." The spectator freely points to a finger, and of course, this is the one you wanted her to select.

The performer, with back turned, asks a spectator to make a choice between four identical face down decks in a row. When the selection is made he/she is told to pick up the chosen deck under which is one of the performer's business cards. Before examining the business card the spectator is asked to shuffle the deck and place it back on the table. EFFECT: Several spectators are asked to think of an unusual job that they have held during their career. Another spectator thinks of an unusual occupation that he or she has never held.

The spectators write their jobs on any paper. They place their folded billets in a bowl or basket in plain sight.

This offering from David Devlin is an incredible mentalism act for the stage that begins with a really cool chair test and a two-phase Three Card Monte using jumbo cards in which the spectators "throw" the cards. Even though the spectators are throwing the Monte while the mentalist's back is turned completely away from the on-stage spectators and can be legitimately blindfolded, he is always able to find the queen!

This may be one of the few acts that feature a chair test that actually serves a purpose beyond fulfilling a prediction. It gets the spectators on stage and gets the Monte cards...
