One single prediction card is placed face down in view to one side. Five different ESP symbol cards are openly displayed and then shuffled. A spectator is invited to freely nominate the first, second, third, fourth or fifth card in the pile. His choice is dropped out onto the table and the faces of the other cards are displayed. When the selection is compared to the prediction card, they match!

Here is the effect: a spectator has a packet of 5 cards. For argument's sake, let's assume the five cards used are simply numbered 1-5 (the actual make up of the cards is up to your imagination). The spectator goes through a procedure in which cards are turned face up, face down, left as they are, the packet is cut, some-times the spectator decides whether the cards are turned over or not, sometimes the performer decides. The performer hands five ESP cards, each bearing a different symbol, to a spectator and requests that he remember one. The spectator is then asked to shuffle the cards. The magician takes the cards back and, after an apparently fair mixing procedure, correctly divines the selected symbol without even looking at the faces.

The method uses an old mathematical ploy but it is dressed up differently here.
