Sticks and Stones: a leaflet for the left handJon RacherbaumerRacherbaumer, a man of words - sometimes strong words, sometimes exotic words, sometimes provocative words, sometimes strange words - but always thoughtful and worth reading, wrote a two year column in The Greater Son of the Bat Jr. journal (S.O.B.jr.). All 24 installments of this column are collected here. You will find a lot of Marlo-vian talk, good tricks and interesting articles.
I was not a magician in the late 70s, so I cannot say how it was back then in the 'good old times', but reading Sticks and Stones allowed me to imagine how - I am sure - it must have been.

The Legendary Kabbala (1971-1981)Jon RacherbaumerThe meaning of Kabbala, translated from Hebrew, means something received and handed down. This definition resonates. Knowledge of magic, after all, is handed down from generation to generation, from magician to magician, and from teacher to disciple. Prior to xerography and personal computers, most magical knowledge was transmitted in this primitive, semi-private, and intimate means. Word-of-mouth reigned supreme and to a certain extent still does.
The magic scene in the Seventies was a blooming, buzzing place, atwitter with contentiousness and creativity. Close-up magic, particularly with... | ★★★★★ $49.50 to wish listPDF_facsimile |
The New Conjurors' Magazine: Volume 1 (Feb 1945 - Jan 1946)Julien J. Proskauer & Walter Gibson The first Conjurors' Magazine made its appearance in 1792 in London under the editorship of Henry Lemoine. This, the first monthly periodical ever devoted to the art of magic, featured "singular deceptions, philosophical amusements, curious experiments, mathematical operations and sympathetic secrets."
Then in 1906 Harry Houdini together with his brother Theo Hardeen revived this almost forgotten publication under the title of The Conjurer's Monthly Magazine (spelled with an 'e' instead of an 'o').
In 1945 Walter B. Gibson and Julian Proskauer gave this title another shot at life and started The New Conjurors' Magazine... | ★★★★★ $8 to wish listPDF_facsimile |

The New Conjurors' Magazine: all volumesJulien J. Proskauer & Walter Gibson First advertised as The New Conjurors' Magazine and dropped the word "New" after Vol 1, No. 1. Houdini's brother, Hardeen, helped get this magazine launched, but he passed away shortly after the magazine started. It was selected as the official organ for the Magician's Guild of America. It eventually changed hands to Ed Dart in 1947 (Volume 4, #10), with Robert Lund as editor (Gibson still continued as a columnist).
Genii magazine absorbed The Conjurors' Magazine and from November, 1949 until 1974 as Genii became Genii, The Conjurors' Magazine. It was eventually changed to Genii The International Conjurors'... | ★★★★★ $35 to wish listPDF_facsimile |
