Latest MagicProfessor HoffmannLatest Magic is the last book in Hoffmann's series Modern Magic, More Magic and Later Magic. Hoffmann had quite some problem finding a publisher for this book. The reason being the quality of the contents. When Modern Magic came out it explained new tricks and tricks which were performed at the time. Thus it was indeed 'modern'. It is also without a doubt the best book in the series. Latest Magic describes Hoffmann's own creations and dealt with a magic which was already considered old fashioned. From a historical perspective it still makes quite an interesting read. 1st edition, 1918, Spon & Chamberlain, New York; 2nd edition, 1919; 222... | ★★★★★ $6 to wish list
Latest Sleights and IllusionsHercatFrom the preface: Although only three years have elapsed since Latest Sleights was published, Magic has made such rapid strides in that short time, and so many new tricks have come into existence, that I cannot allow another edition to go to press without thoroughly revising this book and making many most important additions.

Learn MagicHenry HayLearn Magic is a classic magic book for serious beginners. It teaches 20 lessons and focuses not just on effects, tricks and moves, but also on the 'how to learn magic' aspect. Beautifully illustrated by Hans Jelinek. Henry Hay's larger magic book for beginners, The Amateur Magician's Handbook is broader in scope and already assumes some basic knowledge about magic. Paul Fleming wrote: Some three or four years ago, we examined (in Review No. 19) a little book by Barrows Mussey, entitled Magic. The same author, writing under another name, has now given us a new treatise for beginners in conjuring which is not only larger but far... | ★★★★★ $15 to wish listPDF & EPUB
Leaves From My NotebookJohn Northern HilliardThis is a compilation of Hilliard's contributions to Floyd Thayer's magazine The Magical Bulletin. A few sporadic contributions to magical journals here and abroad followed The Art of Magic. The most important of these stray papers was the first account, in The Sphinx, of a thought-reading card trick of my own invention that has since enjoyed considerable popularity. I refer to the experiment commonly known as "The Telephone Trick." No one was more surprised than myself at the immediate and widespread popularity of this trick. That its success was not ephemeral, I judge from the fact that Mr. Thayer still keeps it in stock, and that many writers,... | $10 to wish list

Lessons in ConjuringDavid DevantThis is an obscure but extremely fine lesson in conjuring. It is true that it was written as an introduction for the neophyte, but it is a gem of a book of great value to absolutely anyone regardless of their experience. The text is very modest - no 'latest novelty' or 'top secret'. Just solid sensible counsel about standard, albeit classic, items from Devant's repertoire. Devant is not simply saying what you might want to hear, he is telling you what he has found to be important. He is treating you the way he would treat a private student. For a book this is quite unusual. Most authors hold... | $7 to wish list
Lessons in MagicHenry HattonFor the time this was published, in the middle of the 19th century, these twelve lessons in magic are probably one of the best instructions in conjuring published in the English language, even though the intended reading audience was young folks. Professor Hoffmann's Modern Magic is still a decade into the future. Henry Hatton, writing here under his real name Patrick Henry Cannon, describes a range of stage and parlor effects including some sleight-of-hand with coins and cards. His description of the pass is by far the best description I have read prior to Erdnase - almost 40 years prior that is! The accompanying... | $12 to wish list

Life's a Beach Volume 2Gary JonesGary is one of those performers who is equally at home presenting magic to lay people or to a room full of magicians, and his creative output reflects those two requirements. Some of the magic in this collection is designed to intrigue and fool magicians, while other effects are fast, direct and perfect for working under almost any commercial conditions. What all the magic has in common is that the methods have been constructed to extract the maximum effect for the minimum of fuss. Some of Gary's handlings do require some sleight of hand - he is very fond of palming cards, for instance... | $18 to wish list
Lift: levitate a walletKevin ParkerA new way to lift a wallet. It's not what you think. You won't believe the video. This is an ultra-visual, realistic levitation of your spectator's wallet, without thread. You levitate their wallet after asking if he's seen the various ways of 'lifting' wallets (pickpocket style). You offer to demonstrate a new method on his wallet, needing to see his wallet first to see if it's the "right type," just an excuse for you to lay the wallet on the table (or whatever surface) and make it lift. Practicality: Super Easy. From beginning to end, not one gimmick is seen nor anything exposed that... | ★★★★★ $8.95 to wish listMP4 (video)

Lost N FoundNefeschLost N Found is a very easy way to make any object (small to medium size) appear out of thin air in a one to one situation. It uses a very easy set up, that your spectator will never be aware of. At the end of your performance your spectator will have no idea where the object came from. As a bonus it includes an impromptu handling. If you are a stage performer: Lost N Found can also be performed on stage as a comedy routine instead of a one to one routine. The one spectator on the stage will be fooled, the rest of the audience will be entertained.
