David Devlin
Word 4 Word by David Devlin

EFFECT: A deck of 52 cards is freely shown. Each card bears a single word. All 52 words are different. The mentalist mixes the cards and hands the deck to a spectator. The mentalist now turns his back to the spectator and puts his hands behind his back. The spectator now makes a random and free choice of one of the words. However, the word is placed sight unseen into the spectator’s pocket. So, even he has no idea which word he has chosen. The deck is returned to the mentalist’s hands. With his back still to the spectator, he instantly calls out a word. The spectator removes the card from...

Sean Waters
Wonders by Sean Waters

"The Panacea Process is a brilliant concept" - Thomas Heine of Paralabs

"It is AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, DECEPTIVE, PERFECT! The best investment I have made." - Jose Prager, creator and author (comment regarding The Panacea Process)

"There are a very few people out there who I've come to trust to deliver 'the good stuff' and by that I mean, 'stuff I can use'. If you're familiar with Sean's ebooks you already know he's a thoughtful, knowledgeable guy, who not only shares great ideas but understands (and credits) where these ideas come from. I can say without hesitation that the Panacea Process was totally...

David Devant
Woes of a Wizard by David Devant

Woes of a Wizard was written by David Devant before he was partner to J. N. Maskelyne in his famous Egyptian Hall in London. Devant became a partner after George Cooke, Maskelyne's former partner had left the enterprise. Devant was a natural choice as he was fast becoming the top magician in England. But at the time of this publication he was, as Paul Daniels says, "a jobbing magician." His base was just outside London, and he traveled the country repeatedly giving shows for society and in the Music Hall. In his famous book, now happily made available once again, he relates the stories that every professional...

Oswald Rae
Wizardry with Watches by Oswald Rae

From the foreword:

Watches have always played a certain part in Magic, but the watch was usually a borrowed one. The excellent "prop" watches now on the market, manufactured of course exclusively for conjuring purposes, open up almost a new era in watch magic.

Having acquired some of these, I endeavoured to work out some effects therewith, and thinking that some of my ideas may be of service to my fellow magicians, I have put them into print. With the exception of those described under "Some Suggestions" all the effects have been actually worked, and the various stands described are easily...

Ken Muller
Witness Projection Program by Ken Muller

A collection of mentalism-type demonstrations based on the framing of the treatment of witnesses in a courtroom setting, and the premises of influence, empathy, clairvoyance and telepathy.

Any similarity to actual practices and techniques of practicing attorneys at law or assistants is coincidental and grounded in mirth. These effects and scripts are for the legal system of the USA and may need modifications for congruency (or sanity) for the systems of other nations.

Truth Test

A defense attorney sometimes has too many witnesses willing to testify. Their eagerness to help often clouds...

Aldo Colombini
Without Safety Net by Aldo Colombini

This is a lovely self-working small packet trick Aldo Colombini created from a trick published by Richard Vollmer.

Effect:

You show the spectator two face-up packs with four cards each, and a prediction - in the form of a face-down card - is placed on the table. The cards are the same in each pile, but their order is different. From a regular deck of cards, the spectator selects three cards. The values of these cards determine how many cards have to be moved from the top to the bottom in either of the piles. The spectator is even allowed to split the work between the piles. Say 5 cards...

Christopher Charles
Without Mirrors by Christopher Charles

Magicians and emcees know that comedy plays an important role in warming up today's audiences. No matter how great your tricks may be, if the spectators aren't laughing, they're not being entertained. Whether for TV, stage, casino floor show (night club), or lodge shows, Without Mirrors contains an excellent assortment of material to choose from to make you the center of attention.

Memorize two or three of the one-liners and you'll also be prepared to deliver an apparently ad-lib, off the cuff remark, just as the late-night TV hosts do. While you don't have a team of comedy writers like the...

And that's not all. Only in this edition is revealed a modern-day source for obtaining a...

Howard P. Albright
With Two Decks by Howard P. Albright

This ultra-rare manuscript from magic author-dealer Howard Albright, features a trio of effects that each use two different-colored decks. These are audience-tested effects that will leave the spectators talking, long after the performance.

RED AND BLUE EN RAPPORT - You exhibit a red-backed deck of cards and a blue-backed deck. A spectator is handed one of the decks and shuffles them. You do likewise with your deck. A suit is chosen. Both of you remove the 13 cards of the selected suit from your deck. Each 13-card packet is then placed in its own houlette or wine glass. One at a time, the...

Robert A. Nelson
With the Eyes of Dr. Reese by Robert A. Nelson

Here is a miraculous, "test conditions" billet reading method that is both fiendishly clever and imminently practical. Leave it to the fertile brain of Bob Nelson to develop a billet test as good as this!

The sitter writes any question on a slip of paper and folds it tightly. She drops this into a glass tumbler. Sitter then takes her own handkerchief and places same over mouth of glass. A rubber band is used to snap around the edge of glass, holding the handkerchief in place.

The glass, containing the spectator's billet, is left standing on a table throughout the test. The performer picks...

Winning Winnowing by Jon Racherbaumer

Ways To End Up With the Only Thing You Want

From the introduction:

This paper is an introductory effort yearning to be a disquisition. Please forgive its discursive style. So far, this recondite subject has resisted an in-depth, organized treatment. The subject at hand is an exploration of reduction and the process of indirectly seeking information. Or, to use the jargon term, it is about elimination and fishing as applied to card magic—more specifically to the Think of a Card effect.
