Here is a feature act. Performer's eyes are completely covered with heavy wads of cotton wool, after which the cotton is firmly sealed over the eyes by means of adhesive tape; after this a heavy strip of bandage is placed firmly over the eyes and tied tightly around the head. Regardless of what appears thus to be an absolute impossibility under these conditions, the medium can walk chalk lines, call names of selected cards, and many other unbelievable tests, even to describing people and their actions.

Audiences and critics alike love this mysterious psychic entertainment stunt. A reputation-maker. Like all good mentalism, it has a simple premise. A female spectator secretly writes a question about her future. Another spectator examines a blank piece of paper, then initials and holds it for safekeeping. The lady now reads her written question aloud and the performer (that's you) calls upon the spirits to reply. The blank, initialed paper is opened by the spectator holding it, who discovers that it's no longer blank. He reads the lengthy reply the spirits have written in answer to the lady...

This is a magic square effect where spectators freely enter numbers in the main diagonal and you quickly fill out the rest of the numbers producing a perfect magic square.

Alternatively you could perform this the classic way that a spectator calls out a number and you fill in all the numbers to form a magic square. But the effect is stronger if your audience can freely choose not just the sum but several numbers in the square. In a variation Werner shows you how spectators can even select the squares where you should next enter a number during your fill-out sequence.
